After downing/restarting our servers (due to power companies planned power outtage), we are unable to send/receive internal email. We are able to send/receive email from outside. Also Notify no longer works. After reviewing the log files, I noticed the following message:
detected error on SMTP command
command: <our domain name>
response: 450 Host Down

Unfortunately Novell's Knowledgebase didn't address our particular problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Mark

Can you ping your domain name from your desktop? How about from the server. Also check the server's resolve.cfg and hosts file.

The SMTP service is probably still down.
We use Netscape Messaging server as our SMTP gateway. When our Netscape Messaging Server crashes, and our GWIA is still running, we get this error messages. It's trying to route the Internet bound messages to the Netscape Server and can't find it. But why you're having INTERNAL mail problems doesn't make sense? I would assume the host down message would be because the SMTP service isn't running, or a problem w/ DNS perhaps? (not resolving your domain name to your IP address host)? Just some thoughts from a fellow Groupwise admin.
Good luck...
