I am attempting to connect some 4425 IP phones to the EL32 card in my MD110. I have connected two of them and I am able to sucessfully make and receive calls. There are, however six phones that I can not get to connect. I have checked all my administrator's settings in the phones and they all match up except that the phones that don't work are trying to auto detect the gateway. I can not find a place in the administration menu to change this. Can someone please help me?

Thank you in advance.

You can only change this when the phones initially boot. I think it says something like 'use administrator mode to change IP address', at this point you need to press (I think?) the keys C * 4 together for a few seconds. You should then be able to enter the configuration, use the up & down keys to get to the 'Gatekeeper Discovery', set this to no and then you should be able to change the Gatekeeper IP address.

This method is only good for a few IP phones on a trial really However even for a trial I would recommend configuring DHCP Option 43 (with Vendor Classes if possible), plus DNS & a WEB server to serve the configuration files for the IP Phones. This makes the rollout much simpler - i.e. you plug the phone in and walk away..... Any changes you want to make or firmware upgrades are then all pretty much automatic.

there is a second option:

just open a webbrowser and type in the IP address of your phone.

Log on with password Ericsson.

you can change the GK discovery option under network.

Oh yes, you can do that as well....

Still think the best option is DHCP, DNS & a WEB Server.

OK, let me give you my exact situation, then hopefully you can assist me in solving this problem.

I have a very basic configuration, and not much invested into it.

I have a 2950t Cisco switch connected straight to the EL32 card. Then I have the 4425 IP phones hung right off that switch. I have no servers, for software or otherwise. I was hoping that I could just program the IP, subnet, and gateway into the phone and then plug and play.

When I connect the phone to the switch and turn it on. It goes through the proper messaging, and waits to be logged on. But when I enter the number to log on as, it attempts to log on, then times out. The only difference I can find is the auto detect gateway option, which I can see, but not change after the phone is loaded and waiting to be logged on.

I have attempted to connect a laptop to the switch and access the phone that way (via typing the IP into IE). But that does not work. I am able to telnet into the phone, but I can't find anything there that will help me.

Please help, I need these phones set up and working by the 24th of this month.

Thank you in advance.

Ok, thank you guys for your help. I found my issue. Some punk in my shop decided to leave a laptop's settings set to search for a Proxy server. Once I fixed that, I was able to log into the phone and changed the gatekeeper address. After I changed the address I was able to sucessfully log the phone on. Thank you guys for your assistance.
