I just started with a new company and am not familiar with the Merlin Magix phone system.

They have a 4424LD+ phone for administration and that's it. This phone is currently on Extension 101 and works fine for administration. However, I want to move this phone to my desk and have it work on my Extension (219) for administration without having to swap phone lines or extensions.

Is there something in the admin menu that will allow me to input a new extension so that extension has permission to use the admin portion of the phone?

I thought I saw it somewhere but can't seem to find it now.

If memory serves me, the positions that can be used for administration are fixed. They are shown when you press (forgive me if the text isn't quite right) "PROG"->"SYST PROG". Data, including the admin positions, should appear on the telephone's display.

If I'm a little off, one of the leads will post any corrections. [smile]

If you move the operator/programming" phone to your desk - you can - but it has to be plugged into either port 1 or port 5 on a 412 TDL module or 024 TDL module - no other prot will work. You can always renumber the extention at one of those ports to 219 - and whatever ext# was there to somewhere else. However - I assume you do not want to be the operator and get all default calls. The Operator (port 1) HAS to be a 4424LD+ or 4424D+ telephone. If you don't have one - you need to get one. A simple solution would be to get a copy of WinSPM - and use your laptop/computer for programming.

In order to use WinSPM, wouldn't the company need to buy one of those Magix Sonix connectors? (not sure on the name of that).

Also, how would I figure out which extension/line is currently on port 5? You have to understand that I'm new to the system and pretty much new to telephony.

To find out what is on port 5: press menu, maintenance, port, station, key in the current 4424LD+ ext. number, press status - it will show the ext slot and port#, logical id (which is 1). Press the next key twice - you will see the next ext info in port 2, press next twice - you will see the third ext info, etc - until you get to the 5th ext. Then you will know who to swap with.

As for WinSPM - you can connect it to the system 3 different ways. You can connect directly to the "Admin" port on the processor (you need a 355AF adapter to do that - or make your own cable); you can connect to an open port on an 016 T/R module; or you can dial in via modem from outside the system - and be manually transferred to the processor. For the above you need a PC with a serial port (com 1) and/or a PC with a built-in modem.

WINSPM can be used with a MODEM and a DIRECT CONNECT through the SERIAL PORT of a PC or LAPTOP.

As was stated earlier, you could invest in a SOCKET MAGIX for a TON OF MONEY and do it by way of your lan, but that is WAY TOO MUCH MONEY for something you don't need.

Also, any of the 1st 5 TDL Ports (since that's what you are using as opposed to MLX Sets) can be the ADMIN EXTENSION.

Bottom line, you are going to have to move some wires/phones and change some programming to do what you want.

I made the line swap. I now have extension 105 (which is port 5) for my extension. However, the 4424LD+ does not have the menus for programming.

Help please.

merlinman: You have a broken link on your site. Under documents: Programming Overlay 44XX Sets

You need to change the system program port - in system programming. You will have to do that from the original location of the 4424LD+ operator/programming (i.e., slot 1, port 1). Then press menu, system program, start, system, SProg Port - and then key in ext# of the phone you want to be the programming phone. Now - take the 4424LD+ and plug it into slot1, port 5 - and when you press menu - you will have system programming available.

Thanks for all the help. I finally got it going. Not a very easy task though I must say.
