Did Avaya make a 4424 or 4412 IP phone? I tried looking it up but got no clear answers. If so, will they work on release 9? I got a blind CEO that wants to keep his old Legend phone which isn't compatible, the 4424 is close. We could go digital, but they only work on DS16 or DS30 expansion modules which would be expensive for just one digital phone. All other phones would be IP.

Avaya made 4400, 4406, 4412, 4424 Phones, originally intended for Merlin Magix, they went EOS Aug 2009.
If memory serves Me right, the 4406, 4412, 4424, and 4450 were no longer supported by Avaya as of R7. They probably do work, but if there is an issue with those phones You will be on Your own.
The 4400 & 6402 have been blocked since R3 ( It never worked right on R2.1 & below anyway )
the 4424LD version of the 4424 is not supported at all, and is blocked since R4
Also 44xx only work on expansion modules, they are blocked on internal Digital 8 modules on the 500 & 500v2.
These Phones take a lot of juice. most module failures I have seen in the field were filled with mostly 4412/4424 Phones.
Their firmware is not upgradable, and only have one choice of ringtone when used on IPO.
I do NOT recommend using these Phones on IPO, it will save you a headache in the long run.
just My 2 cents.

Why not give the CEO a 1416? (Or even a 9508 if the system support it).
In my experience, blind people learn new phones quicker than any 20/20 vision.

Kind regards

Gunnar

Thanks guys. My question was does an IP version of the 4424 exist? This site will have all 9608g's. I did present a 1616 as an option, but the blind and very old CEO wants something like his existing phone.

1616 would be the closest, and probably the safest choice, as the buttons and screen is pretty static.

Kind regards

Gunnar

4400 series is digital not IP so a 1416 would be the closest option.:)

I have a customer that uses the 4400 sets on R9 but he is phasing them out slowly as they are really on their last leg after 8 years.

Westi, not so obvious, but he's swapping out digital for IP's :)

Kind regards

To directly answer the question, yes it does. The 4624 would be the VoIP version of the 4424. However, I do not think it is supported/compatible above V3 (or somewhere around there). But they may still work and they are super cheap now, around $50 or so for a refurb. I say give one a go on a test system or before you launch the system in the field and see if/how it works for you. Best practice would be to replace the phone with a current model, but sometimes......

94Astro, the 4624 is the VoIP version of the 4424. Indeed, it is not supported above R3.2
There was I site that had a SOE on R4.2, with a few 4624 Phones. They did work, but would randomly re-boot every other Day. I told them they are no longer supported, but they really liked those Phones and said they would dealt with it!
One Week later I was back there, to replace those 4624s. This was many years ago. I would not attempt to use older 4612/4624 phone on a new system.
Others suggested the 1416 for the blind CEO, I agree, this is a good choice, as it has plenty of fixed buttons.

Gunnar you are right again, I should start reading posts again when I want to send a reply

Missed it completely myself, Westi, got hung up on the story about the blind old CEO

I came here for the headliner, "4424 IP Phone", thinking this ought to be good.
"Someone chiselled a medieval apparatus into an IP phone? What's next, Stonehenge was a phone booth?". [smile]

Kind regards

Thanks for the info guys. Sucks that the 4624 isn't compatible. Forgot to add one more adjective to this CEO, old, blind and stubborn. I'll offer the 4424 on a DS16. I'll also tell them the 1616 might be good for him, maybe with an SBM24.

With the 1416 you could probably leave the plastic label covers off and have some braille labels made up, he'd love you then I imagine....assuming he can read braille of course :)

Good idea amriddle, that didn't even cross my mind!
