406v2 and DTE...

hi guys, i have 2 406v2 units that both are refusing to respond to DTE procedures.

on 1 unit client has forgotten the password so i HAVE to get into it via DTE, but trouble it only 1 out of 3 power-ons gives me results on the hyperterminal screen, and the unit NEVER responds to escape button presses in order for me to type AT commands, and of course refuses any other key entry as well...

I thought this was due to the unit itself but the same happens on a second 406v2 we have here...

my DTE cable setup works fine on any other unit model (SOE, 403, 406v1).

Any ideas?

THere is a FAQ here that has all the settings in it. Have you checked to make sure your settings in hyper term are correct.

I've had mixed results at times with DTE. There have been a few boxes (my test rig included) where I've had to use a different PC - for whatever reason - to get in and default the box.

Maybe try another PC and see what happens?

i dont mind the fact that its irratic, but never does it allow me to escape/type AT etc...

would love to but i cant get a response from AT at all...otherwise i'd type AT-X etc etc

they have forgotten security passwords so it needs at lease an AT-SECURITYRESETALL

have you tried a different terminal emulation program tera term or some other vt 100 emulation try a search on google

just tried, no good, it just plain ignores me and continues to scroll through the bootup sequence.

tried hitting escape every second, 10 times a sec, tried just typing AT commands etc, didnt work...

When this appears your want to be hitting escape. Once should be enough.

unbelievable, guess what the problem was? the cable!! it was a standard serial cable exactly the same color as the avaya DTE one...i must have got them mixed up in my bag at some point in the last couple months...

moral of the story: not all serial cables can act as DTE cables even if the pins look like they fit!!

Then you are lucky you did not blew your serial port
But how did you try thr other units ???

Ummm.... glad I read this - is the cable to be used for DTE NOT a standard serial? I've been using one for over a year now ?!
