406 Upgrade Gone Horribly Horribly Wrong

Just Upgraded 2 IP406v2 from 4.2(20) to 5.0(8). This system has been working for about 5 years flawlessly.

There are two systems in this SCN F1 and F2. F1 is the main site with the Manager/VMPro PC. F2 can check voicemail, make extension calls to people on F1. People from F1 cannot call F2.

Attached are both the configs if anyone is curious and a monitor trace of extn 2112 making a call an extension on F2.

What is weird is F2 actually sees the call come in on the trace and then drops it for some unknown reason. I have this sent up to Avaya and am awaiting a response. I'm sure he will call me and tell me everything looks fine and he isn't sure why it isn't working so hopefully you guys can catch something we are all missing.

Not sure what the problem is but there's some messy programming, lots of errors and extension ranges are all over the place.....no offence but I would tidy that up a little :)

I'm more worried about what I would break by doing that. The guy that did the initial install apparently did that since it was the only way to route calls at the time and I don't get paid enough money to clean up his mess.

On a side note, anyone reading those configs can dial into your system as it stands, hopefully your Manager password is not default too :)

Upgraded firmware on the router and everything seems to be back to normal. Apparently the Sonicwall did not like the firmware upgrade.

Well now you have time to fix the errors :) I would start by changing the RemoteManager password it's a quick fix to a large security hole, dial in access means they are also on your network not just the system :)

Andy is right
and what the heck is a user 0001 and 001;
tell them that they have lots of trouble with that stuff if they are not keeping at least the same length of user extensions and huntgroups. This needs a serious overhaul with the programming and I am afraid the voicemail might look the same way. You could make them happy by cleaning this up and make yourself happy by not having to go through this mess when they want any changes done.

I opened the configs, screamed like a little girl. Ran around the room with my arms flapping about then crawled under my desk and cried after looking at those. I'd love 5 minutes alone with the person who did that. Idiots like that give this product a bad name.

it seems quite odd that this actually worked flawlessly but this is what we could use as a good example how great the IP Office actually is. I remember times when a space in the name could cause the system to hickup.

Don't always believe things like that Joe. I just upgraded a customer from an old 406v1 with 2.1 to an IP500 wiht 5.0(8). They insisted that their system was working "flawlessly". When actually every evening when they put the system into night mode, for the past several years, it would simply drop their incoming calls. But nobody ever noticed. FOR YEARS and nobody ever noticed.

The only reason it came up was because the receptionist got upset that when she came in each morning after the upgrade there were messages waiting in the general mailbox and she was sure that I had done something wrong because they never had messages before. I kindly offered to set the system up to disconnect the callers without warning as it did before if they preferred.

it is like going to site and people tell you that the system did something for years that the system can not do and all because you installed an additional phone. :)

Got a cracking example of one of those, I went to Birmingham (220 miles/350k away)and re-jumpered a couple of extn's to move them, half way back I get a call from the Boss "Andy you need to go back you have knocked an extn off in the offices", I hadn't even worked in that DP but I had to go back, I got back there and asked the Manager to show me which one I cut off...[Manager] "That one there, was working fine this morning"...[Me] "What this one, that has no cable going to it and is painted shut? ".....Silence... "I'll send you the bill in the morning" :) I was not a happy bunny :)

406v2 running 3.2.67, 2 dig 30v1, 1 dig 30v2, 2 ana 30 v2, and 1 ana 16 v2

The didital 30 v2 will flash red/green with no phones working. A reboot will not fix the dig 30 from flashing red/green. I'll start to un-plug the phones in the dig 30 and then suddenly the module will go green. I figured it's one phone in the field that is shorted, but that's not the case. If I have only half the phones plugged in it will stay green. As soon as I plug 17 or 18 phones in and reboot the module, it will flash red/green. If I reboot the module with only half phones plugged in, it will go green. I've tried all combinations of various phones plugged into various ports and it does not follow a port but only having more than 16 or 17 phones will it fail.
I tried a new power supply with the same results. Has anyone seen this? Could this be a symptom of not upgrading the dig 30 to 3.2.99, or is that reserved only if you are going to 4.0 and above?
Thanks.
