406 3-2-57 to 4-0-7 Issues? 1

Attempted to make such an upgrade and thought I had it MADE!!! Lo and Behold the system takes to it like I thought and everything goes great till I attempt to dial and there is no secondary dialtone. When I default the database it appears to work fine but reprogramming an entire database from scratch doesn't sound like much of a treat (yes i know i'm whining)

Is there any easy fixes to this as some of our customers are already asking about the "latest software" and i really want the transition to go smooth.

The only system short code should be like this:

9N N Dial 54:[9]

Note: On 4.0 ver. Do not put semi colons (on 5N or 9N System Short-Codes, if you do, you have to dial 9# or 5# for secondary dial tone. No other shortcodes can start with a 5 or a 9 otherwise you will not get secondary dial tone unless you press 5# or 9#.

Your ARS shortcodes should look something like these:

ARS 4.0 Short codes:
11 911 DialEmergency 0
911 911 DialEmergency 0
N; N Dial 0
18xxN; 18N Dial 0

So why 54? my [9] came up as 50 and when it did so secondary dial tone was checked. the only difference i saw between the default database and my converted one was that 50 was [9] 51 was Main in my ARS tables and 50 was Main in the default one and no [9] was used. Even so when i set my call flows to Main on the converted one it still failed.

50[9] and 51[9] is correct.

I modified my ARS table at one time. I had 4 or 5 ARS routes.

All calls will use the 50[9] table by default, unless you specify calls to route over 51[9] table.

When you do an upgrade it will convert all your [9] codes in short codes to an ARS table. It will then call that one 50[9]. The default Main ARS table will also be there but it will be 51. If you program a 4.0 from scratch (default with 4.0) it will have a 50:Main. So when I get a 406 from avaya I flash it to 4.0.whatever then I do a default or it keeps all the code as it did an upgrade. If you don't do that you also won't have the default user rights.

So the best practice then would be to upgrade default then build from scratch? It just sounds like there would be a lot of room for error to me. And I understand that the 9 short codes are being replaced by the ARS table and that when it is defulted that you have 50:Main and nothing with the [9] entry in the ARS tables. It just frustrates me that the secondary dialtone (in my case anyway) is gone after upgrading from 3.2.57 to 4.0.7.

But even Goliath fell from a tiny stone.

You can upgrade an existing config. Just make sure their are no system short codes like [9] or 9; and make sure in ARS that secondary dial tone is checked.

Tried that as well Doz. I took my 3.2.57 Config and removed the short codes and sent it to the 3.2.57 system and then performed the upgrade and still couldn't get the Secondary dialtone to work correctly. (I was reviewing some of the previous posts on the forum here and saw what some were trying with the N; and such and where the confusion was with the secondary dialtone no longer being a short code but a check box in ARS tables) And that all makes sense.

If you have gotten this to work in the past with the 406 and 412 and such there may be hope for my next upgrade and I may have just drwan the short straw with this one.

Actually, leave the config alone untill after you upgrade it then check your system short codes and ARS shortcodes.
When you upgrade to 4.0 it will automatically move your system shortcodes over to the ARS table. After that check your system shortcodes and you should only have this one for dial 9 (calling out).
9N N Dial 50:[9]

Take out any and all other [9] or 9; shortcodes.

Other than that all should work. I've done many upgrades from 3.2 to 4.0 and all has worked well after modifying the sysetm shortcodes.

you all talk about sytem shortcodes
but also user shortcodes must be looked at too
over there you also have to point them to the ARS form


also nobody talks about the telephony settings in the system tab

dail delay time must be 4 seconds and dail delay count must be 0

Excellent Post tlpeter. The whole issue falls victim to the fact that I have user short codes in place and that the origianl short codes didn't migrate to the new ARS Tables. Problem Solved Thanks Again.
