Hi

After an Update (not sure which one - but it restarted my server!) our sharepoint 3.0 site is down.

I have checked other threads and there is no definitive answer! the eveny log shows:

It seems its a known issue out there but some of the solutions I have tried have not helped.

Hey Acydman.

Have you rerun the Sharepoint Products and Technologies configuration wizard after the update?
That could solve problems like these.

Yes I have run that as well with no joy.

Sometimes after an upgrade I have had the same problem with particular web applications. This command has generally fixed it for me:

stsadm -o upgrade -inplace -url xxx

where xxx is the URL to the web application that generates the 404 error.

It might work for you too, but I can't guarantee it, especially as I run a farm environment but you seem to be running in single-server configuration (SQL Express). Please make sure you have backups of your config, admin content, content databases first: I wouldn't want my advice to leave in a worse position.
