Can anyone tell me if there are any problems using 3rd party color toners in Xerox Tektronix laser printers? (6200 or 6250 printers) Are the colors way off and can damage be done using these like 3rd party inks in solid ink printers?
At this time, there are no compatible toner cartridges for the Phaser 6250. For the 6200, we (and other sources) supply a compatible cartridge essentially identical to the Xerox cartridge (that is, the plastic case and toner powder are the same as used by Xerox.
I ran into a few problems while I was with Xerox regarding the 3rd party toner cartridges. It seems the toner would coagulate in the dispense tubes or in the imaging unit developers and sometimes both. This would create a gradual fading of the affected color to the point it would become non-exsistent. At this time Xerox has no policy regarding their use on the 6200/6250 as they did with the solid ink printers so as a tech we would replace the parts under warranty/contract, but I am sure there will be one forth coming.
I have a Phaser 740. I decided to try compatible toner cartridges. I've regretted it ever since. Of course, the Phaser 740's have more than their share of problems even when everything is factory-new. So these printers may be a little more sensitive to toner differences than the average printer. But if I had to do it all over aain I would never have used non-Xerox toner.
