3pcs, one is annoying...

I have 2 pc's and a laptop, all running win xp pro. 1 of the pc's occasionally needs to be rebooted to get internet access. It happens about twice a week. The other pc and laptop never have this problem. I have run virus stuff, spyware, etc. Also, everything is as current as possible with win updates. All 3 connect to cable modem via linksys befsr41 router.

Try downloading a newer driver for the ethernet adapter. If you can find the chipset used by your OEM manufacturer, they are often better drivers than what the OEM offers.

This is usually either a driver error, a marginal drop cable, or mis-specified speed/duplex settings. You adapter should be set to "Auto".

If it persists, (and it may), create a new Scheduled Task. Note that in a Scheduled Task you have a schedule options including "at Startup".

Open a notepad sesssion and create a notepad session, say fix_dhcp.cmd, and use it as the Target of your schedlued task:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
********* copy/paste ends above this line

Use fix_dhcp.cmd, your new batch file, as the Target for the "at Startup" scheduled task.

by internet access, do you mean running a browser or simply unable to ping or be pinged from the affected system?

If is is merely internet access, Remove on the computer that is having the problem the updated sp for the browser and reinstall it.

If you can not ping or be pinged from the system, the problem rests with the network card, in which case those drivers need to be deleted and reinstalled.

I can ping across my LAN when it goes kablooie(sp?)
It just stops being able to access the internet or email.
Anyways, change of plans here. I just got a linksys w11s4pc11 so I can wireless my laptop. So far all 3 comps are ok, Ill see if the troublesome one still has the problem show up down the road.

Indeed, I have already used winsockfix, what a beauty it is. But alas, that didnt fix this little problem. Its just so random, Ill wait to see if the wireless and different netcard driver makes a difference.
