Two out of
three of my computers can't make connection when connected to one of the
LAN-ports. The monitor on the right of the taskbar says: "network cable
unplugged". Strange thing is that everything works with my server (pc with w2k
advanced server, pci 3com nic) but not with my laptop (xp pro, onboard intel
nic) and my desktop (pc with w2k pro, onboard intel nic).
Was the prduct working before? no
Have you made changes to your configuration and/or Network? no
What trouble shooting steps have you followed? as I mentioned, the connection
with my server is perfect. So I tried this:
- I took the cable off my server and connected it to my laptop, using the same
port on the switch. Didn't work. I tried the 3com nic from my server (the one
that works) in my desktop, using the same cable and port on the switch. Didn't
work. Nic settings and tcp/ip settings on my laptop and desktop are similar to
my server. Makes no difference. When I connect my laptop or desktop to the
switch, the green led on the switch keeps flashing and the connection on the
computer says "network cable unplugged" I tried both straight and crossed
cables, doesn't work. (cable that works ok with my server is a straight cable).
I even tried the gateway with the factorysettings. Nothing. I don't get it,

Got it kind of working! Did a fresh xp install on my laptop and now it works on 10 Mbit Half duplex. It won't at 100 Mbit full or half duplex. Other computers and laptops can but my laptop with internal intel nic won't. Darn. I read on a dell forum (my laptop) that it is a common problem with intel nic's, is it? (nic is a actiontec modem/nic combo with an intel 82559 chipset)
