I have 3 x 3Com SuperStack 3 3870 switches. The old Network Admin left way before I came on board and no one knows the admin password. How can I recover or reset the password in order to reconfigure the switches? I have tried the 3comcso login with the RIP000 password through a hyperterminal but it does not work. I have also tried the recover feature but that does not work either. I cannot locate a reset button and I cannot find the firmware without signing a maint contract with 3Com.

What does your documentation say?

In the Quick Start user guide I found the following: For more information about default users and passwords, refer to the
“Management Interface Reference Guide” on the Switch CD-ROM.

Do you have the CD-ROM that came with the switch?

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately, I don't have the CDs. There doesn't seem to be much documentation on how to reset the passwords for this model.

Thanks anyways.

Hope this works for you:

Password Recovery
The password recovery feature allows you to reset the
admin user password by logging into the unit via the
console port using the username recover and
password recover. If you power cycle the unit within 30 seconds then the password will be reset
and you will be prompted to enter a new password
on restart. There is no command to disable the
password recovery feature.
