Hi There,

I hope this is someting simple for you guys...
I got 3Com baseline switch 2952-sfp plus, and need to connect 2 subnet

Configuration:
Port # 3-52 PVID1 VLan001 Hybrid 192.168.1.0/24
Port # 1-2 PVID2 VLan002 and VLan001 Hybrid 10.10.10.0/24

Port #2 connected to a switch configured by other company

From the web console, I can ping .10 network, but I am not able to ping .10 network on any computer in .192 network

Any help will be much appreciated

Is it a Layer-3 switch?

If so, have you enabled Layer3 routing?

Have you configured a VLAN interface in each subnet?

Are the PCs in both networks configured with a default GW address matching the address configured on the VLAN interfaces?

Hi There,

It is layer2-switching

* I could not find anywhere in web console to enable Layer2 or Layer3 routing

* Yes, I did configure VLAN interface in each subnet
Port # 3-52 PVID1 VLan001 Hybrid 192.168.1.0/24
Port # 1-2 PVID2 VLan002 and VLan001 Hybrid 10.10.10.0/24

* There is a server Win08 doing DHCP (192.168.1.2), and a firewall on 192.168.1.1
But I could not find any configuration to put default GW on the web console
I only configure the network config (192.168.1.0/24) and its IP for management

Thanks again for your reply and hope I can hear somthing from you/someone

Layer 2 is NOT for routing! I don't believe any of the 3Com Baseline series are Layer 3 capable. So, if you want to route between VLANs you need a real router or a Layer 3 switch. You might want to explain what you are trying to accomplish. Do you really understand what VLANs are and how to use them?

Sorry, it is a Layer2 switch, with Layer3 routing capability
I am not expert in VLAN and never use it, but isn't that's the purpose of posting a question here?
I did my homework reading the how-to as much as I can
JVM, I would much appreciate if could answer the question without you trying to be a genius

Cheers

Purpose: trying to connect 2 VLan on the same switch
VLan1: 192.168.1.0/24, port 3 - 52
VLan2: 10.10.10.0/24, port 1 - 2

Configured the network subnet for the respective VLan
Both VLan configured as hybrid - untagged
Able to ping both subnet from web management console
Unable to ping 10.10.10.0/24 fron any computer at 192.168.1.0/24

You haven't answered me about the configuration of the default GW address on the PCs in the two networks.

the configuration of workstations:
IP: 192.168.1.x
GW: 192.168.1.1
DHCP/DNS Server: 192.168.1.2

But the configuration of the VLAN interfaces is the one a bit confusing me
I attached a jpg to clear any misunderstanding (well, I am the one who get confuse...)

Thanks for the reply

Unless you have a route to send traffic between the VLANs of course you can't ping! They are separate LANs! VLANs are like private line circuits. They are entities to themselves. The jpeg was as clear as mud! All it shows is the IP address scheme of your VLAN assignments which you already mentioned in your post at the top.

What are you trying to do with the VLANs?

VLAN2 which has 10.10.10/24 is another network someone else in the company requested

I basically need to connect these 2 network, because there are few people on network 192.168.1.0/24 need to access 10.10.10.0/24 network resources

If I need to create manual IPv4 routing, how will be set?
I try to do manual routing as per picture attached, but I still can not ping .10 network from .192 network

Thanks for the reply

You've given me *half* what I asked: what is the IP/default GW configuration for the *other* workstations?
