The literature refers to the "handset option" for M3905 phones. I would think you could simply plug a handset into the handset jack that is labled with the picture of a handset on the back side of the phone. You can hear on the handset but you can't be heard. The mute button is not lit and we are not plugged into the supervisor jack on the side. There is nothing plugged into the headset jack. Any insight from those with specific experience with M3905 phones?

Check the Nortel website. There was an issue with a range of 3905s. Try also issuing the firware upgrade command. You could have an incomplatibility with your set and system release.

There is a handset kit for the 3905 that uses the switch-hook. Most Sups here that use a handset use the monitor port on the side.

3905's are made for Headsets but you can use a handset. Just plug the handset into the middle RJ (the headset one) on the back of the phone. You may have to press the Headset button on the front of the phone. You won't get dial tone from the ACD ext. that is for incoming only.
If the user wants to use the Hook switch it is there. Use a small screwdriver to pry off the cover that is hiding the hook switch. The Handset "kit" is a handset, cord and a little piece of plastic to replace the cover you just took off.

Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.
