We are getting ready to install some 3904 series sets with push to talk handsets at one of our call centers. The issue is that we cannot get dialtone on the hand set when we go off hook. If we push the button on the handset and then go off hook we get dial tone. We tried the handset on a 3903 set and works fine, without pushing the button first. Does anybody have suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Check you have the handset plugged into the correct RJ11 connection at the back...My thought is you have it in the Headset socket....Other than that can you post one of those 3904 TN's configured please

Cheers!!

I am not familiar with the Push To Talk handsets, but there is an option in the phone menu where you can change from Off Hook Default setting to Handsfree or Headset. You might want to try the opposite setting it is on to see if that fixes this issue. From the 3904 press Options key (next to headset key) then press 16 to reach OffHook Default (or scroll thru until you reach that option) then select the other option.
This may work if SL1M1's or BiscuitJack's responses do not. It could be the headset socket or something in the 3904 config versus the 3903 config as SL1M1/BiscuitJack state.

I have the same issue with 3904 sets and PTT handsets which we acquired for a customer. HFA is already set and the handset is plugged into the proper receptacle. I also toggled between headset and handsfree defaults within the Options list, with no effect.

Even stranger: Other 3904s in same PBX work OK. Firmware maybe? The set with the problem has Core FWV = 024 and Flash FWV = 090; whereas the working set has 024 and 087.

Here is a sample TNB. Not sure how to make this work. Any ideas?

I think you provided the answer!!! I am thinking that in FWversion 90 Nortel must of missed something that causes PTT to not work properly.

Other 3904s in same PBX work OK. Firmware maybe? The set with the problem has Core FWV = 024 and Flash FWV = 090; whereas the working set has 024 and 087. So, I would tell everyone to go back to version 87 until someone can test new firmware (I think 92 is out at least) and see if it works properly!
