34 D Phone problem

I have a customer with a Partner ACS. The receptionist phone a 34 button display phone is doing the following.

Calls do not disconnect, she must go to another set to disconnect calls.

When the phone rings the calls are answered without picking up the handset, it automatically goes to speakerphone without touching the set.

Cannot transfer calls.

This telephone set is about 1 1/2 years old

Any help would be appreciated.

is the phone's spkr button lit when in an idle state???
you can make the phones and others ring once and then auto answer...

The speaker light is not lit. They don't use auto answer,during the day. Also lines are not disconnecting when they are hung up

Is this a fairly new acs install?
Was the system purchased new or refurbed?
What other phones are on the system?
Do you have any single-line phones attached to the system?

If you have the manual, you might want to default the system or do a reset. Then see what happens.

It sounds like there is a short on the voice pair of the set, keeping it in an off hook state. Not a dead short, which would still let the lights work while killing the audio, but a resitive short.

Another possibility, which I have seen several times, is a headset with a "Partner Base", which connects either to the Aux port on the phone or via a T-adapter at the jack, left in the ON position accidently.

If this phone has the optic switchhook it sounds like it has gone bad. Replacements are available from

It could also be low spring tension not allowing the plastic switchhook to fully retract. Brian Cox

Brian is right on about the hook switch. It was a common problem amount the Partner sets, especially the Euro 34D sets. Swap it out with another phone and see what happens.
