Hello - I am working with the 3300 and recently upgraded.

I would like to just reinstall the system. I have a couple of issues with passwords and alarms and just want to scrap it.

When I try to use the software installer for a full install, and use the 3300 ftp server it asks for a file. What file do I point it to? Do I need to install the original software and then do the upgrade again?

Thanks in advance for any help. I couldn't find anything anywhere about reinstalling the system.

The Full install process and Upgrade process are virtually identical as far as setup is concerned.

You need and FTP server with the software loaded on it and accessible by the 3300. The files it is looking for would be there.

best practice is install IIS in WINDOWS. Be sure to include FTP services. FTP username and password should both be ftp, allow annonymous logins. The Mitel software installer will put the neccessary installation files in the ftproot directory.

What specific issues are you having? If you suspect a botched install, then maybe I'd suggest a re-install, but MAYBE.

Upgrades are supposed to be done at a dealer level, and I suggest you let your dealer do it.

I don't allow our junior techs to do upgrades without supervision yet alone allowing any un-certified IT person do one.

I was called out to an emergency service call where another vendor allowed a customer to do an upgrade (before the Software Installer Tool), and they completely messed up the install and had not done a proper backup of the system before the upgrade.

If you insist on doing the upgrade yourself, I'd suggest you have help with someone with experience.

I bet though if you were to explain your real problems, we might be able to help out properly.

My specific problem is that I tried to reset the system password in the CDE after the upgrade. Prior to the upgrade I had changed the username and password with no problem. After the upgrade, it would not take my password. I assumed that it would keep the default. It didn't. By trying to login too many times with the incorrect password/login combination, I created a major alarm condition. I would just like to clear the alarm and get the system password recovered. I do not have any devices configured on the system - so any re-install/reformat/restore/etc. is no big deal.

Thanks again for the help.

When you say CDE, I assume you're talking about the telnet interface? If so, I'd be willing to bet you're trying to access the system level account, which is reset to default on a software upgrade (only the "system" account is reset, and only on the telnet interface). Try the default username/password for the system level login, it should work.
