Hi all,

Our 3300 is placed in our phone room in a precarious position where I cannot get behind the system to check for a serial number.

I can't seem to find any mention of a serial number on the quote we received from the vendor that sold us the machine either.
Would Mitel furnish given that we went thru a vendor?

Can I find that info in the Admin GUI?

Thanks for any hints!

-SP

The serial number might be on the underside
There is nothing to show the box serial number.
Most customers use the system ID for identification as this stays with the system if the chassis is replaced.
You can find the system via the gui it is in the licencing options form

Hi SuperNova99,

Ok - thanks for the info!

I assume this is the serial Number:

Hardware Identifier: 0000002AE9AE

This what Mitel call the system ID or sys ID
This is what is used to licence the system so as stated above will stay the system in the event of chassis replacement
All chassis boxes (3300 controllers) have a serial number however as the box could get replaced if a hardware fault occurred it would be prudent to use the Sys ID for inventory purposes

Ok - I'll look for a serial under the machine/switch.

Else, try to use the Sys ID to give to a Mitel vendor for Repair purposes.

We are worried if a disk or power supply fails - we have no hardware contract or Maint and current time.

Thanks,

The serial number is on a large white sticker on the bottom or the controller. It is 5 letters and 4 numbers as (ie.ABCDE1234)

You can buy parts from eBay. Much cheaper then have a contarct if you have no plans for upgrades and etc.

Hi Guys-

Thanks SXWiz - I see there is a large white sticker and a small one.
We'll check that out - thanks!

Hi Slapin-

We were wondering if we should upgrade to Software/FW 9.X -
currently at 7.1.5.13 - no sys or call control relink.
We don't use the VOIP portion w/ phones yet - only our 5550 console for receptionist.
Rest of equip --> SS4015'2/4025's and we still have our hardware PE's from our SX2000.

But, we don't have a service contract or maint on the hardware anymore and I was wondering if we should invest in a a new contract/maint or if I could replace the parts myself.

We have RAID'd hard drives and two power supplies.
But, no redundancy on CPU's or any other devices I know of?

Future plans:
I would like to stick with Mitel/3300 - but can anyone suggest a case that would convince my mgr's that we should "not" go to Cisco equip?
That is the direction the company will move unless I can prove we should stick with Mitel for good reasons.

Alot mentioned above - Thanks for any input.

The question is why would they go to Cisco? What is lacking from the current system that would prompt that action?

Hi IrwinMFletcher,

Mostly a case for centralization of services to one vendor.
Headed up by our group IT Dept - trickle down.

Yes, I agree - I'm not sure why given the Mitel has served us well here so far.
No complaints or further needs from our users.
Doesn't make sense from a practical standpoint.

I will push for future setup of the new Virtual configuration w/ Vsphere and the 3300.
Then, I have a project to virtualize the IP 5550 console PC as well.

See what happens.
Thanks,

-SP

Never understood that mentality, but I guess that's business, and what keeps businesses going. So someone thinks that by switching to a single vendor, it will save money (less contracts to manage, maybe a discount), but the cost of the replacement in physical equipment, time and training, just to get back to the point where you are now, is somehow lost in the process. But as I say, I guess that's what keeps companies going, otherwise the exec, the contracts person and the poor IT guy would be twiddling their thumbs....

There is nothing wrong with Cisco. The only difference that Cisco started as Data communications company and Mitel is Voice (telecommunications) company and former was in this business much longer then Cisco. Cisco is big and growing by buying other companies with great products. From my personal experience I can tell that Mitel is very stable and reliable system. Dispite the fact that Cisco data equipment is much more reliable that some other brands, but we had less dead Mitel units then Cisco devices. In few years we had just one Mitel controller which started randomly rebooting. I'm not counting HDDs which we relace during our preventive maintenance cycle. Also Mitel is cheaper (and I wish they lower prices even more :) ). If you calculate cost of ownership, licensing, cost of devices, cost of aux services like voicemail and IVR, intergration options, resiliency and etc you will be surprised.
