We will soon be installing a 3300 in a condiminium site with no network. What available options are there for gaining remote access to this controller via DSL or Dial Up? TIA

It is my understanding that the controller can be configured for PPTP access via the WAN port.

Source of this info was BriBob. Maybe he can help?

You can do it with the Wan port indeed.
You need to setup a VPN to the controller which must have setup the pptp.
It is a long time ago for me so i do not know it anymore.

tomcotton, it is indeed possible to PPTP into the WAN port of a 3300. Keep in mind, that if you're connecting an DSL modem directly to the WAN port, if your IP is dynamic you could run into issues. Also, it's worth mentioning that this is only possible if you have a direct connection to the internet (3300 has a publicly routed IP address. No class A, B, or C private networks.) If you are using a router and can set up NAT, then yes, you could technically set up the 3300 on a private network, and forward ports accordingly. I do not know what ports PPTP uses to authenticate with, so good luck with that one.

System Config > IP Network Config > Internet Gateway
1. WAN Settings: Configure your WAN port accordingly. I have only ever worked with a static IP, but you can use DHCP or PPPoE (DSL?)
2. Remote Access: Enable PPTP, username, password, and Client IP. Make sure the Client IP is on the same network as the 3300, and outside of the DHCP scope. Since you say you have no network, this should not be a problem.
*3300 Config Complete*

If done correctly, you should be able to ping the 3300 from anywhere on the internet. If you can't, connect directly to the 3300 WAN port and try from there (your pc will need an IP address on the same network as the 3300). If that fails, then you need to recheck your IP configuration.

Now you need to configure a PPTP connection from your computer.

In XP, go to Control Panel > Network Connections > Create a New Connection.

-Connect to the network at my work place (next)
-Virtual Private Network
-Enter name, ie " 3300 VPN "
-If you are using dial up (on your PC, not the 3300) select the dial up connection to use. otherwise select 'Do not dial the initial connection'
-Enter the PUBLIC IP address of the 3300 that you configured in step 1 from above.

After clicking next a few more times, you should be prompted for a username and password (from step 2.) You should see 'Verifying username and password'. If everything works, you should then be able to ping the 3300's PRIVATE IP address, as well as browse to the web GUI.

I have never successfully used the 7100 to dial into a network. PPTP and SSH tunneling into MAS/MSL servers are my preferred method of remote access.

On a side note, if you're putting DSL into the site anyways, why not get a cheap linksys router and flash it with DD-WRT. This will give you a small personal network, as well as the ability to SSH/PPTP into the router instead of the 3300 (security). For more on that, fire me a msg.

Hope this helps.
