I am looking for opinions / interpretations of the following text from the Help files.

Does this mean that a Menu node should have access to the Corp Directory?

Menu options

Enter the mailbox or extension number that calls should go to when the corresponding DTMF digit is dialed. Do not use the following numbers: 0 (reserved for operator), 9 (reserved for directory listing) or 99...999999 (reserved for System Administrator mailbox).

Yes Loopylou, but does it mean that a Menu node can use it? It specifically tells you not to use it but the reason is ambiguous.

I see 2 possible reasons.

1 - Don't configure 9 because a user dialing 9 may expect it to go to DBN and it won't.

2 - Don't configure 9 because it can be used for DBN.

I want it to be option 2 but I believe it is option 1.

Mitelmatt, been there done that, it will fail.

My question is leading to the next step in that is this a design intent flaw that can be addressed due to the manual stating there should be functionality that currently does not work OR is this just another case of a tech writer not knowing enough to be clear.

I dont think it can be done KWB. I think embedded sucking is a well for them to help sell nupoint.

The other fun thing about Menu no xfer nodes is that you xfer the call to an extension that has a mailbox setup for it. i.e. i dont think you can xfer the call to a hunt group unless you match the hunt group dn to a mailbox number.

I know it can't be done cknipe. The question is whether the documentation is saying it should be able to?

We could be here all day describing the things it can't do but your example is not one of them.

Transfer mailboxes can transfer to any valid DN on the system. (MB # does not need to match transfer number aka extension)

Probably a tech writer not being clear or not being given the correct information. I guess the only way of getting an answer to your question is through product support. All I can do is guess which doesn't bring you any closer to getting an answer.

Loopylou, at least you are the first to at least express an opinion on the matter. (Which is what I was looking for by the way)

At first I didn't want to bias the responses by revealing my interpretation but that just created the same situation I was asking about.

Sorry everyone for being so unclear.

I think the Manual should not state that you should reserve the 9 as it serves no purpose and it cannot work for the functionality anyway.

I just had a moment of hope that was quickly dashed.
