Is it possible to increase the RAM on the 3300 from 256 to 512? I have several older MX's that we've upgraded to or are in the process of upgrading to Rls 8 and I note that the Offline Upgrade process is not supported unless you have 512 Megs of ram.

Thanks

some Mx configurations are not supported for field upgrade to this release. We need the controller type. size and current s/w level to answer your question completely.

Currently @ rls 7.1

The Release notes make no such distinction nor do they make any mention about a RAM size limitation for performing the "online" upgrade. Where it's mentioned is in the training course. (I meant to say Online" upgrade in my original post.)

I realize the first time, going from 7.1 to Rls 8 that the usual process is necessary, but thought that once upgraded to 8 that we could thereafter use the online upgrade process and minimize downtime going forward w/future upgrades. However, per the training manual this seems to require 512 Megs of ram and my controllers have 256, so the question is, can we upgrade the amount of ram in the system? Looking at the THB I do not see that mentioned so I'm inclined to say it's not possible but thought I should inquire of this group to see it that's really the case.

Thanks

I've never heard of field upgrades of RAM, and honestly, I wouldn't know where you'd find a DIMM slot or something similar to cram it into.

Be warned, however, that the online upgrade isn't 100% "field ready" IMHO yet. I found on my last round (8.0 to 8.0UR1) that it blows away the embedded VM Primary Greeting. I haven't tried going to UR2 yet, so it may have been fixed; however, the product support tech I reported it to hadn't heard of that issue yet, so it may still be a nagging issue until the next UR.

Use the s/w installer tool that comes w ith the s/w down;oad. It will check for the proper h/w cnfg before the new s/w is installed.

For the older MX configurations there is a "Pay and Swap" program. Not sure if it's still running, but it was very simple. You would order a special MPN (Mitel Part Number) and provide the SYSID. Mitel would then provide you an RMA to send that MX back. They would in tern provide you with a refurbed unit with the upgraded RAM. Check with your AE in your region to see if the program still applies.

If all else fails couldn't I simply purchase a new 3300 MXe chassis w/no licenses then move the sysid over (as we currently do with the lightning-strike spares)? Of course most all my sysid's are the old style so I'd imagine I'd need to go through the necessary channels to obtain one of the new buttons.

yeah, the hitch there is the SysId's from an MX to an MXe aren't compatible. You'd have to order the MXe chassis, then reset your hardware ID on the AMC and then either re-synch or download a new password depending on if you've done online or offline licensing.
