Hi,

Hope this isn't a stupid question...but can the 3300 be programmed to play "radio" music" for on-hold calls?
Is it an add-on product to be purchased?
I "think" we currently have a *.wav file that is a rep-recorded loop?

Thanks for any input,

Scott

You'll need either an ASU or an SX2K peripheral node with either a DMP module or an E&M trunk.

The bigger problem is that "radio" music is illegal to use as MOH. Check the ASCAP/BMI rules and regulations for acceptable use and re-broadcast. To be legal you must "subscribe" to a professional background music service (example Muzak) that meets the legal requirements for replay or rebroadcast. Otherwise you can be sued. ASCAP/BMI folks love to discover illegal lobby music and MOH because the resulting lawsuit is a slam-dunk and typical settlements $10,000.

In other words..... you can't buy a CD player and bring in a stack of CDs either. It must be music for which rebroadcast performance royalties have been specifically paid for the purpose intended. Over-the-counter CDs are only licensed for private individual use and not for public entertainment.

Doubt this? Check with a professional DJ who sets up and plays music for wedding receptions, etc. They'll tell you (and perhaps even be able to show you) their ASCAP/BMI licenses.

Hi MIMB,

Thanks, I get the drift about illegal copies and the RIAA(ASCAP/BMI).

I think we have an E&M trunk to use in one of our SX2K Per Nodes but am not sure what an ASU is?
Yep - we are still using some old SX2K Per nodes.
But, an extra one?
Maybe you meant use the existing with a new card installed?
What is a DMP?

Thanks,

SP

ASU - Analog Service Unit

DMP - DNIC Music/Pager Unit

Yes you can listen the radio when you program in MOH,the steps are the next:
You should program how Analog Music:

System Options Assignment form
Set the Music On Hold option to "Yes".

(Optional) Class of Service Options Assignment form
(Optional) Set Music on Hold on Transfer to "Yes"as desired for each Class of Service.

E&M Trunk Circuit Descriptor Assignment form

set the Outgoing Start Type parameter to "Immediate"

set the Transmission Facility parameter to "2 wire"

set the 2 Wire Balanced Network Setting parameter to "600"

set the Perform Seize Test on Out-of-Service Trunks parameter to "No"

all other parameters may be any value.

E&M Trunk Assignment form
Ensure that the trunk number is unique, that not stay in use. The service number, E&M trunk circuit descriptor number, and the interconnect number may be the same as other E&M trunks.

Miscellaneous Assignment form
Set "Music Source" to "External".
In the "Music Source Port - Location ID" field, enter the PLID of the E&M trunk circuit (copy the dates front)

And the music you can listen now!! in all the telephones,oh i forget you should reboot the equipment.

What 3300 chassis is it? Some of them (MX comes to mind) have a 3.5mm input jack for MOH, so you can use a standard $5 cable from Radio Shack to connect to your source.

Hi Lundah,

The chassis is a MXe(300 ICP Rel 7 - 1400 user). We don't have IP phones yet.

Hi all,

Yep, there is a MOH plug on the back - just looked.

So, I just hook a jack that is plugged from a radio device into the MOH jack and program the steps above and it works?

Looks like I could subscribe to Muzak or get their music CD's starting at $99.
But, I think our users want live radio...

The MOH port is addressed as an E&M port in the programming, as PLID 4 1 3 1. So connect your source to the input jack, and follow the instructions in the on-line help to program it.

folowing up on this audio jack....

could i just use a standard headphone like jack for a MX controller... if so its not working and its connected to a Muzak source but i do a stat 4 1 3 1 and it shows busy so i belive the system is set up correctly but not the jack it s3lf.

Thanks

There is nothing physical that needs to be set for the jack to work.

If the programming is correct, it might be the plug. Not sure if a mono or stereo jack is best but you might want to try the opposite of what you have now.

yea possible i just dont know if its like with a tech bulliten with a mono or stero on a MX one of my techs said he read somthing in a bulliten like a year about about something like this though he nor i can find it anymore....

ive even done all the steps also rebooted the controller last night..

i dont know if because i changed it back in the misclenous assignment form from External to Embedded after the reboot and it didnt work but i couldnt leave music off or do i have to delete the embedded recording then reboot again because i heard no audio and i also raised up the volume too.

mono / stero though
