I can't find the new MAINT command for changing the MWI key function from Visual VM back to normal.

I just upgraded a system from an early version of release 8 and have over 100 sets to change.

Anyone know it off the top of their head?

Found it in the 8.0 UR5 Release Notes

For anyone else:

The usage of a new maintenance command is to turn on/off default setting of Visual Voicemail for both 5340 and 5235s
Format of command usage:
SacSetVmButtonCfg <enable>, <deviceType> (optional)

enable is: 0 to turn off launching the VVM app with the message key
1 to turn on the VVM app with the message key

deviceType is : optional - if not specified the default is 0
0 - all devices
1 - 5340s
2 - 5235s
e.g
-> SacSetVmButtonCfg 0,1
Setting visual voicemail launch via mail button to : 0
Setting VM Button Cfg for all 5340 devices
Finished configuring launch VM button

Note: You may need to turn off Visual Voicemail setting for 5340 when you upgrade from 8.0 UR2. As by default, upgrading from 8.0 UR2 to 8.0 UR5 will have Visual Voicemail Setting enabled for all 5340 devices.

Now if I could only figure out how to give myself a star!

So that's how you give yourself a star.

Thanks Paterson. [2thumbsup]

Not having as much exposure to the 3300 as most of you I came across Visual VM accidently.

Upgraded the 3300MXe in our office to MCD 4 and on our 5340 set's the feature became apparent.

After setting up an additional hunt group in order to be able to play back messages it seems to work fine.

Is there some underlying reason to remove it or is it just a matter of preference?

I see that the command must be entered on RTC shell and can’t be entered in system admin / maint, I've not yet used RTC to enter commands.

Can anyone please tell me how to access and enter commands in this way. I assume you can telnet in or just connect to the serial port of the 3300.

After looking closer at the feature I think I just found the answer to the first part of my question.

Seems that you can set the phone to remember your voice mail password thereby allowing anyone with access to the phone to access the voice mail messages.

Wonder if that has anyting to do with the Phone Lock feature !!!

Floppy1, it's just a matter of preferance.

Visual Mail is a very nice application but as you've noticed, it can have some security concerns. In addition to saving the login, the user can simply not log out granting access to the vm for any casual observer.

Mitel has a secure telnet program (provided with SX200 Software) that allows connection to the console port via telnet port 2002. I'm not sure if other secure telnet programs will work as I stick with what works for the most part.
