I feel like sharing a recent discovery. When using import spreadsheets, it is not necessary to import all items.

This is most useful when modifying classes of service. If you want to change a specific timer for several or all classes of service it is not necessary to import anything but the column with the timer along with the COS number (and maybe the comments). Each column is indexed with a reference number that is also required.

This can save significant time and reduce errors when dealing with large numbers of systems that don't have SDS enabled.

I've been using this process for some time now without issues.

Enjoy.

Hi

Sounds good but just trying to get my head round, because i always thought that if you imported a blank field it would overright what was there?

Can you elaborate a bit mate cause this could be good

Using COS to continue my example.

When you export COS from a system running 8.0UR3 you get 99 rows and 178 columns.

If you wanted to change just 1 option for all COS's and imported the whole form you would need to import over 17000 items.

You only need to import the columns you want to change along with column 0 - Class of service number.

Column headers are in row 2

To change the Hold Timer for all COS's using this method you would import column 0 and column 136

Total data import items = 196

Using this method can allow you to enable things like record-a-call or hot desking for new installs without actually needing to export first.

with you. Nice one mate, that is quite handy to know.

A better example of this is the Multiline Key assignment form.

What you do is assign the keys you want on the spreadsheet. Then after the prime line key section highlight all the rows which pertain to the multiline keys.
Now do a sort data on line type. This should now allow you to easily delete all the keys which have a value of "not assigned"
Now you only have to import the keys which you are changing.

Cuts down immensely on import time. Especially if you are doing hundreds of sets.

Thanks Patrickmcg,

Yes I probably should have mentioned deleting rows as well.

Deleting rows is a more obvious shortcut than deleting columns however.
