Hi,

I've been tasked with trying to get a digital file/copy of a user's Voice Mail recording of their greeting/voice.

Is this possible with the embedded VM in the 3300Mxe?

Can I export the recording from the VM to a file somehow thru the Admin GUI?

Thanks for any input!

Use Filezilla:

FTP into the box.

VM Directory = /vmail

Form there just hunt around, you'll find it.

I'm always curious when there are requests like this. Personally, I wouldn't touch them, people are too sensitive with privacy issues.

There is a simple way. Call the user's voicemail and put your phone on speaker, then use your PC to record the greeting. I say 'you', but really I mean 'the one who asked for it'. There are simpler ways of the person getting the greeting that don't involve the (mis)use of the system.

Irwin, I always assume that others require this method for the same reasons I've used it in the past.

e.g. A users extension number needs to change but the user is not immediately available to re-record their personal greeting.

kwb...Possible, but still not a valid argument in my opinion. Just because you move a person's extension doesn't mean you have to move the mailbox. Sure, it's nice if the mailbox matches the DN, but it's not a requirement.

Hi Guys-

I can clarify my justification for needing access to a person's VM.

I agree w/ you IrwinFlether about privacy or ethics issues - if that is what you mean.
But - in this case here is the reason.

The person has passed away and I was asked by the HR dept who was notified by the spouse - that we get a recording.

Don't ask me why, maybe for a funeral byte - I didn't care to ask and thought I come to the experts.

Thanks for the help!

I don't think that scenario would have crossed my mind in a million years.

Guys-

Ok - I FTP'd and found a g<ext>999.lst file.

Is this correct?

And can I rename or use a media player or something that reads .wav files to hear it?

Please advise.

Thx.

if I remember correctly you need /vmail/d/int/int<xxxx>.vox will be the greeting recorded by the user.

Cool - Any hints as to what type of player you would read with?

Thx.

I have been asked for this for exactly the same reason , it happens more often than you would think. try searching for voxplayer

Arcada make a voxplayer and convertor free - had trouble with in on win7 64bit but runs ok on xp

I use Audacity to play/convert these .vox files.

Once they have been retrieved from the controller, open Audacity and then go to "File/Import/Raw Data..."

Encoding = U-Law
Sample Rate = 8000 Hz

Leave other options default.

You can then export this as a .wav file using "File/Export"

Hi Sarond,

Excellent - thanks for your help - I downloaded and also converted into an MP3 as an option too!
