I just bought the mitel 3300 cxi controller pbx and I´m having a problem!

It´s the first time I ever worked with mitel so I´m not very at ease. I´m trying to configure it but i can´t quite see how to do it!

When I power up the cxi controller, the alarm led (red) just blinks! The power led is off and the disk reading led is off!

It seem like there´s no connection! I think it´s because there´s no operating system in the disk, but I don´t know how to install it! I´ve tried to access it by console port and nothing, I tried by lan port and nothing (although the lan port leds turn on), and the configuration guide isn´t very helpfull!

Has anybody ever worked with the 3300 cxi?

Is the iButton System ID module installed? If this is a brand new system out of the box, it's possible that there's no software installed on the hard drive, though Mitel recently started sending out systems with the latest software installed. First thing to do would be to connect a PC running HyperTerminal, ProComm, or whatever terminal software you prefer, and connect the appropriate Comm port to the "Maintenance" port on the CXi chassis. Set up the Comm port for 38400, N-8-1, and power up the CXi. The system will do some POST tests, then, assuming the boot flash is programmed correctly, VxWorks and the 3300 ICP software will boot up. Do this much, and post a capture of what the system is putting out on the maintenance port and we can be of much more help to you.

The CX doesn't come with a Hard disk or System Button installed, at least none I have seen!

You have to open the case, install the HDD and the system button, and probably the Embedded Analog board too...

The default IP address is 192.168.1.2 BTW if you get that far! (you have to use IE as browser though, fix this mitel!!)

Ok...so I´ve booted the gateway while using hyperterminal and this is what I´ve got:

From what I gathered it just confirmed my suspictions and it has no boot file on the hard drive! How I´m I suposed to install it?

You're sure there's a hard drive installed? If there is, you'll probably have to manually install the software from a PC connected to the Ethernet port. Not too difficult, but something you should get from the documentation, the Technician's Handbook has the procedure.

Yes...I´m quite sure there´s a hard drive installed! The very fist thing I did was open the gateway and confirm it had a hard drive!

As for the configuration, I´ve been trying to install the software from the pc connected to the ethernet port! Here are my configurations :

boot device : motfcc0
processor number : 0
host name : pc
file name : C:\TFTP-Root\Boot_Install
inet on ethernet (e) : 192.168.1.1:ffffff0
inet on backplane (b):
host inet (h) : 192.168.1.60
gateway inet (g) : 192.168.1.1
user (u) :
ftp password (pw) (blank = use rsh):
flags (f) : 0x0
target name (tn) :
startup script (s) :
other (o) : motfcc

But when i reload the controller I get this error message:

"Error loading file: errno = 0x3c.go to previous field; ^D = quitn
Can't load boot file!!ot AFTER countd"

I don´t know what I´m doing wrong!Has anybody ever tried to install the software manually???

I notice that the "inet on ethernet (e)" address looks funny. 192.168.1.1:ffffff0 there is a 0 missing from the end. Perhaps just a copy and paste error?

The file name should just be "Boot_Install". Don't put in the full path name. That is taken care of by you installing the software on the root folder of your FTP server.

Are you using a TFTP server or an FTP server? Make sure your FTP server is set to either allow anonomous logins.

My Biggest problem is that I almost always believe what I tell myself.

I think it doesn´t need another 0...does it?
255.255.255.0 in hexadecimal isn´t ff ff ff 0?

What about the flag? is it 0x00 (fixed ip) or is it 0x80 (ftp)...btw,I´m using tftp!

I would put in the extra 0, but it should work if you are not using a router.

The flag is correct - 0x0 tells the machine to boot from the FTP address.

I am pretty sure you need an FTP server. Lots of free ones online.

My Biggest problem is that I almost always believe what I tell myself.

I´ve read the flags description from the help command and 0x80 is the one to boot from tftp. I´ve tried to configure it with the extra zero and nothing different! The error is always the same.

Here´s my configs now:

boot device : motfcc0
processor number : 0
host name : pc
file name : Boot_Install
inet on ethernet (e) : 192.168.1.1:ffffff00
inet on backplane (b):
host inet (h) : 192.168.1.60
gateway inet (g) : 192.168.1.1
user (u) :
ftp password (pw) (blank = use rsh):
flags (f) : 0x80
target name (tn) :
startup script (s) :
other (o) : motfcc

and here´s the error I always get:

" Error loading file: errno = 0x3c.

can you ping the controller?

I have never used TFTP before, so I can't help on that front. I have used the FTP method lots and have never had a problem.

My Biggest problem is that I almost always believe what I tell myself.

no, i can´t...that´s the problem! The controller is completely inactive!I´ve got the alarm led blinking, the ethernet ports leds working but there´s nothing else!the read disk led and power led are totally dead!

I hope you are certified! I think this needs the help of Mitel Tech Support.

well since you appear to have the controller set up correctly to pull the software from the PC that is acting as the FTP server, let's look at the PC to make sure the FTP (normal old FTP, NOT TFTP) settings are correct. This includes having IIS set up correctly, and having a username and password set up on the PC that matches what is programmed in the 3300 ICP's bootline parameters. Also, if you have any sort of firewall software running on the PC, disable it.

Ok...so I´ve finally figured out what was wrong! The most stupid errors of all! I´ve opened up the case and the IDE cable connecting to the hard drive was a little loose!

I started uncompressing the image and I´ve got a brand new error for you!

---------------------------------------------------------
e.
MiChannelTcpData::MiChannelTcpData
ERROR: Failed to connect to 167772406
MiChannelTcpData::connect
ERROR: TCP socket rejected Connect request. Socket error Host unreachable

---------------------------------------------------------

Does anybody know what this one is all about? He´s trying to connect to what whost? My pc, mitel, etc ?

Just curious, did you change the boot paramaters back? I have made that mistake before!

**************************************
My Biggest problem is that I almost always believe what I tell myself.

Yes, I´ve changed it back...at least I think I did!I´ve configured it so it boots from the image in it´s hard drive! But maybe there´s something I´ve missed...does anybody have the original boot paramaters for the 3300 CXI controller?

cxi´s software is VxWorks5.5.1

my current boot config is:

boot device : ata=auto
unit number : 0
processor number : 0
host name : WOC
file name : /partition1/Rtc8260
inet on ethernet (e) :
inet on backplane (b):
host inet (h) : 10.0.0.105
gateway inet (g) : 10.0.0.253
user (u) : ftp
ftp password (pw) : @
flags (f) : 0x0
target name (tn) : 3300
other (o) : motfcc

( I defined the hostname WOC...)

What 3300 ICP software release are you trying to use? 7.0, 7.1? There's been minor differences in the bootline config between some releases.
