In a remote office which I support, one of the PCs, running Windows XP, has started obtaining an IP address in the wrong VLAN.

The default VLAN is 10.129.70.0/24 and the PHONE VLAN is 10.129.71.0/24. The PC connects via the office's wireless network and the phone via the wired network

If the user goes to the command prompt and types ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew they will receive an IP address in the correct range.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jay

You either have two DHCP servers with access on the same VLAN or the port that the access point is on has access to both VLANs. I would think that the Mitel DHCP is a bit quicker in responding to DHCP request and that is why you are getting that IP range first.

I would suspect the second option of the access point having access to both VLANs. Look in the L2 switch config.

Good Luck.

My Biggest problem is that I almost always believe what I tell myself.

The 3300 is handling both DHCP scopes.

After reading the help file, I am somewhat confused about the routing configuration for the switch. Do I list the local networks in the route table, or the networks which are remote?

I am using an external router to connect all of the sites together.

Thanks,

Jay

As mentioned before, check your L2 switch settings. In particular, check to make sure the Data DHCP server's port has the Voice VLAN turned OFF, and vice versa for the port facing the 3300.

Are you using DHCP helper to get your addresses from the 3300 for your PC's? If yes, is it routing to the 3300 via layer 2 or 3? (Layer 2 could be your problem) If no, exactly how are you configured to allow the DHCP request from the Data LAN to reach the 3300?
