I created 4 analog DTS lines that I want to assign to four programmable keys on a 5312. I am able to program 4 button keys on one Extn Directory number but when I want to program the same on the other phones , I have an error message that the Directory number is assigned to another Group. I looked through the Trunk, Hunt, Pickup, Ring Groups but couldn't find any where any of the chosen Directory numbers are members. Any help Please

Its me again. To be more specific the error message reads: "The directory number is currently programmed as another type of group" and this comes when I programmed a Phone Key as a DTS with Line type as "Single Line

You can't change the key type from Single Line until there's a 2nd appearance. You'll have to manually set that one up, then copy to the other sets. The line type for each line is in Mutliline Appearance Groups.

Well I want a Single line appearance where the external incoming call only appears on a personal key on only one phone (5312). I was able to do this but then I wanted to programmed 4 exclusively keys for 4 analog trunks where will provide the user the options of selection one to make a call which I was able to do for one phone. The problem I have is when I attempted to replicate or copy these same set of 4 keys on other phones I got this message "The directory number is currently programmed as another type of group".

Right, because a Single Line can only have one appearance (that's why it's called a Single Line). If you want to tie an analog trunk to a specific key appearance on a phone, you should use the DTS (Direct Trunk Select) feature, which is a bit different. Look in the online help.

I did that ok i.e four keys for four trunks, but when I want to copy the same keys, on other phones so that can also select a trunk, it got this message "The directory number is currently programmed as another type of group". what is the meaning of this message because I have checked all available groups (hunt, ring, pick etc ). Am using a 12button IP5312 and this is what did:
For example Extn 101:

Button 2: DSS/BLF 101 Ring ( I also tried Multicall on this button )
Button 3: Single Line T1 Ring
Button 4: Single Line T2 Ring
Button 5: Single Line T3 Ring
Button 6: Single Line T4 Ring

Now it is when I attempted to copy Buttons 3 to 6 onto four other phones ( Extn 101 -104 ) that's when I have the error message above. The Trunks T1, T2,T3 and T4 do not belong to any Trunk Group since its Direct Select

Right, because you can't have a second appearance of a "Single Line" key! The 2nd appearance must be programmed as either a Key System or Multicall.

so why can't I copy the keys to the other phones as above. How would you do it in your case. I have taken these trunks out the ARS Trunk Group Assignment. Is this right ?

You can't copy the keys because you can't have more than one appearance of a Single Line. I don't know how much more plain I can explain that.

when you go to copy thyem change the line type from single line to multicall

it works like this

program a number (9999) on phone 1 button 2 as single line ( thats the first appearance)
if you want it on another phone or another button on the same phone , the next time you assign it you have to set the line type to multicall
once thats saved if you check the first button you programmed it will show as a multicall
if you delete the second appearance , the first one will change back to a single line

1 appearance = single line
multiple appearances = multicall

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

I think this is going to be your easiest way.
On 102 manually program:
Button 3: Keysystem T1 Ring
Button 4: Keysystem T2 Ring
Button 5: Keysystem T3 Ring
Button 6: Keysystem T4 Ring

The keys on 101 will change from single line to Keysystem.
Then you can copy the keys to the other extensions.

By the way this is going it would have been faster to program them all manually [bigsmile]

By way of explaination

Any key that has a single appearance in the system will appear as a single line.

This is REGARDLESS of how the key is actually programmed be it Single line, Key System or Multicall. Yes this is a pet peeve of mine and I wish Mitel could correct it.

As you have discovered that can be VERY annoying when trying to copy keys.

If you program manually for the first 2 instances, it can then be copied without issue
If you remember to do so, you can modify the key type as you are copying but it needs to match the originally programmed type on the first set
A nice trick is to use copy keys BEFORE any are programmed on any phones. Simply modify the keys as you want them and include every phone that needs them
I typically use import spreadsheets and as such this is less of a problem for me.

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

Many thanks. I tried doing as per Sarond's above but when I saved, it displays Single Line instead of Key system I put in. Please its best to give a scenario of what I want to accomplish.

The customer has 12 Analog lines and each line is exclusively dedicated to an Extension for both outgoing and incoming calls. The reason behind this is that ONLY the lines dedicated to the Directors have international facility given by the CO and therefore calls made by them will display their respective public directory numbers to the calling party. They would want their respective incoming calls to route directly to them as well (I used the Trunk Service Assignment for this).

The problem is that outgoing calls, if their respective trunk line is faulty then they cant make or receive calls. I tried to resolve this by DTS in programming a key on their phones for each of these international Trunks so that if one Directors respective line is faulty he can select any idle Directors keys to make calls but still keeping their Trunk Service assignment for directed incoming calls. The rest of the staff use the other trunk lines not in this category by going through the normal ARS and dialing prefix 9.

Should I use Multiline Appearance group form ???

Sorry for the long story but grateful if one can help here.

You can do a copy of the single line as long as you change the button to either key system or multicall prior to the commit
