Has anyone been able to fool the system into dialing 9 for them. I've been chasing this one for years but my customers keep asking. (they dont like reprogramming all their speed calls in the faxes for some reason)

I am really looking for proven solutions not theories but I don't mind an original idea or 2 as they might inspire someone/me.

Worth 2 or 3 stars at least.

You might be able to do this with some ARS trickery. Set up the last route in a route list to point to a route who's COR Group only allows FAX machines (you DO put them in their own COS/COR, right?), and have the Digit Mod for that route insert the 9 for you.

I haven't actually done this, but off the top of my head, it's the only thing I can think of that has a chance of working.

Theory:

You would have to make an entry for:
1+(number to follow)
2+(number to follow)
3+(number to follow)
ETC, ETC in the ARS Digit string form (cant remember the exact name) and use a route that only has the COR of the Fax machines allowed. Each number 1-0 will actually become an ARS Leading Digit in this case. You won't need to modify the digits even.

It might get a bit tricky with the 9 though.

It is only a theory though, but I know a site that has both 9 as an ARS access code and 9 as the starting digit for virtual extensions (wink wink)!!

I said numbers 1-0, but I wouldn't touch the 0. Try 1-9.

Sorry Lundah, I mustn't have been quite clear. I need ARS access automatically, inserting a 9 at the end doesnt help, I need it at the beginning.

Paterson, Yeah that works, but whooeeee it stinks. Creates conflicts with every dialable number on the system. The faxes work ok but you have to wait 3-5 seconds after dialing an internal local or press # to indicate dialing complete. I filed this away ages ago as unworkable.

I am confident we have to use the associated DN somehow to automatically dial. My issue has been getting the system to accept a valid string for outbound that still allows the flexibility of being able to dial any number. So far I can only make it dial specific numbers.

I should also mention I am only talking about digital trunking here. On sites where there is analog trunking the faxes are usually left off the Mitel.

I also don't like loopback solutions using analog trunks looped to ons ports as this only allows 1 call per loopback and is useless for the sites where I have multiple faxes.

If there were only 1 or 2 faxes I wouldnt even care, the customer can reprogram the speed dials.

Keep those suggestions coming.

I have to wonder if there are any Fax machines that have a setting that will automatically dial a 9. Not that it helps with this situation, but just a general wondering.

Paterson, Yeah that works

[thumbsdown] I, The Grasshopper, have much to learn. But it works!! I guess if the customer is not happy, then that's the Saleman's responsibility, heheh! [tongue]

Not that it helps you in the near term, but open up a DCR with Mitel on this. This topic comes up ALL the time, if enough dealers & users request it, the boys in Kanata will give us a better solution.

Lundah, I admire your confidence in Mitel's commitment.

Personally, I gave up on the DCR process ages ago.

The key with the DCR process is to prove the revenue at risk. If they can ship another 1000 systems by adding a feature, they will try like hell to include it in the next release.
