I don't work with analog trunks very much.

I have a request from a customer to connect to a 3rd party system via analog trunks. It's some form of Skype Gateway.

Here are the requirements. Item 2d concerns me as I don't think I can provide dialtone on analog trunks.

1. Configure the 6 embedded analog trunks in a “hunt arrangement” so that any of the trunks can be accessed by users dialing an access code.
2. Configure the 6 embedded analog trunks so that they interface to Skype Gateway as follows:
a. Accept ring tone as a ringing signal.
b. Accept busy tone (or wink) as hang up signal.
c. Accept polarity reversal as a hang up signal.
d. Provide dial tone as an off-hook signal.

I'm not interested in suggestions on how this might be done differently. I just want to know if analog trunks on the Mitel can meet the requirements above.

Anyone?

I don't think 2a is doable. I assume you mean the supervisory audible ringback tone in lieu of 20/30 Hz lumpy DC and LS trunks.

I agree, I tried to hook up a skype 2 d-link adapter and I'm not sure why, but the phone will ring but the controller will not acknowledge an in coming call. Outbound no problem.

Right, thanks, I misread 2a as ring voltage. What the heck is ring tone?

They can't do "a". The loop trunks only accept ringing voltage as you pointed out.

They can't do "b". Need disconnect signal or loss of loop to drop a trunk

They can't do "c". Least I think they will not respond to a polatiry reversal.

They can't do "d"

Don't know any PBX that could deliver the above on analog trunks. More like T1 trunks needed.

Maybe they should be investigating a Skype device that supports SIP trunking.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

Loopylou - your objections led me to re-read more carefully and research the manual.

Wink - I thought a wink was a standard disconnect signal on analog. It may be but I can't find supporting documentation.

Reversal - I thought the Mitel processed reversals but I now find that it is with respect to trunk seizure not disconnect.

Suffice it to say I'm going to tell sales to steer clear.

Thanks everyone for your input.

LoopyLou - BTW - The Mitel can connect directly to Skype via SIP apparently. - Mitel Document 10-4940-00120

Looks like whoever wrote the specs for the Skype Gateway was smokin something.

Turns out that a tech programmed up 6 analog trunks, put them is a trunk group, programmed ARS and everything is fine In and Out.

Sorry for wasting your time everyone.
