Has anyone had any experience running multicast on the Cisco 3200 Mobile Access Routers?
We have some 3200s with the 4 port Fast Ethernet Switch Module (FESMIC). When we set up Vlans on the FESMIC, and enable multicast globally and PIM on the Vlan interfaces, we can see the multicast hosts respond to the IGMP querries from the router, and join the multicast groups, but multicast traffic (even between two directly connected hosts on different Vlans on the same FESMIC) doesn't get forwarded.

If I do a "show ip igmp group" I can see the hosts joinging the multicast goup fine. But if I do a "show ip mroute" I don't see the router forwarding any multicast data.

Strangely engough, I can't get it working until I issue a "ip igmp static-group..." command on the Vlan interface.

I have also tried to turn off multicast route-caching, but it doesn't work without the static join.

I have also seen this on a 3745 with a 16 port Ethernet switch module.

Anyone else possibly seen this?

eddie,

I do not have answer for you, but I am interested with your experiance with the 3200... I am thinking about utilizing it in an implementation, but there is very little information from cisco on it. For instance did you have to buy you own enclosures and power supllies, and if so how much and from whom??? Also, what kind of range are you getting with it, and how well does it work??? I am working with a municipality that wants to implemnt this in police and public works vehicles, any thoughts, Thanks for yout time in advance I am sorry I could not help you with your question....

Hello,
We have a few 3200s that we got shortly before Christmas, and have been playing with them. All in all they seem very capable, and I have only really been having a problem with mulitcast being forwarded on ports of the FESMIC without a "static join" in place. I have a ticket open with Cisco, and think that it may be a bug.

We are in a bit of a strange situation here, because I am a contractor for the gov't, and have to use custom enclosures, etc..
However, below is a link to a page that lists all of the third party equipment for the 3200.

I know what you mean about documentation....I guess it's lacking because it's pretty new? I found that Cisco only made the Router, serial, switch, and wireless cards, and that the fan cards, power, cabling, etc., was all third party. Also, we did get the wireless cards, but haven't had a chance to range test them yet.

I also had a heck of a time getting even quotes for the WMIC from some places, much less getting permission to purchase it. It seems to perhaps be controlled technology?
We actually were able to order all of the cards, cabling and power supplies from one vender, who was able to gather all of the pieces from the various sources.

All in all for the size I can't complain. For being so small they are actually quite capable.

Thanks for your posting and I hope this helps.
