I have a legal copy (with licence key) of Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. In addition I have a laptop with running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Can I install the Windows Professional 32 bit onto it? I realise I may not get optimum performance but need the additional features of the Professional version.

Thanks,

Sure, but you would have to reinstall windows from scratch. Also check the key, depending on version, 32 bit and 64 bit keys were the same. Already running A 64 bit version so running a 32 bit version will only be impacted if you have more than 4 GB of ram, and at that, not by much depending on what you are running. Any free utils out there that can give you the functions missing in pro version that you are looking for?

If you clean install you may have to chase up suitable drivers (from the Laptop manufacturer) for the new operating system to work with the Laptop's hardware.

Buy the "anytime upgrade" from Home to Professional, and you have the cheapest (no need to buy a new full license) and quickest (in-place upgrade) deal. You'll be on x64, but that just fine.

I have home at the office and professional at home. (go figure). I really don't see much difference. Have you tried upgrading from the disk? It was possible with a full version of Vista, but then, Vista was weird. You CAN upgrade from home to professional.

Thanks for replys. Think I will start with the Home Premium and see how it pans out.

But you can't go from 64bit to 32bit,or vice versa. Needs a new install.

Why not run it as a VM? Then you can use both versions.
