3043 Disk or Network Error

I have a program written in VB 5.0 - this application is stored on each users PC (Windows 98, 64MB RAM) and connects to a MS Access '97 Database stored on our server (Windows NT Backoffice Server SP4, 128MB RAM). From time to time we get error messages on the users' pc's - 3043 Disk or Network Error - it can happen at any time of day and they can be any part of the application. What happens sometimes is that one PC will get the error and then another PC will crash too. This error is becoming very frustrating - am I looking at a network problem (CAT 5E 100Mbit),a programming problem or an ACCESS '97 problem???? They all have Access '97 Service Pack 2b installed on their PCs.

Please help me I am getting desperate.

Hello,

I had these Problems with a malfunctioning NIC. It hasn't to be the NIC in the PC which reports the Error. It seems, that ACCESS needs a stable network connection, and even the slightest failure let's Access report an error.

We are using 3Com 3C905C network cards - this doesn't only occur on one PC, it happens on all PCs.

does this happen when the server is under heavy load?
Also check the cabling, maybe there are to many errors on then network.
From what I have experienced your'e problems are not a matter of programming. But Access is very strict on the quality of network and Disk-Access. Maybe there are time-outs. To prevent Collissions on the Network try to use Switches instead of Hubs.
Also think of switching to one network protocoll, if you use more than one.
