I'll state as succintly as possible: Using Access 2007. I need to print onto a 3-up form a bunch of "index cards" that need to have their data grouped so that the length of each individual "card" will vary. Access's Report Writer allows for grouping but they can only "bump to new page" when the group value changes, so I would often miss printing on the "labels" that may be under the one just printed on the 3-ups if I use that. Access's Label Writer will easily print always to each of the 3 "labels" on the 3-ups, but lacks the grouping and variable details that the Report Writer features, so I'd have to do all that in the driving Label Query some way. The Label Writer seems to require all fields that will go on any one "label" to be on the record being processed. I could create a query like this under FoxPro, which I used years ago, and permits one to easily step thru the records of one table creating records for another, but that isn't available to me where I am. Is there a way of doing this in Access? I'm too new to it to know. - 4thwayboy

Access can print grouped and sorted labels. Have a look at the label wizard.

Remou - I looked at the label wizard again. I see nothing about grouping. First it askes for the label template (like Avery or Custom), 2nd about font and color to use while printing the labels, then it presents the fields to choose (from the open table or query). Then you can put these fields on the 'sample label', using spaces and puntuation and newlines to position. Then it asks for how to sort the labels (you can select fields). Finally it needs to know what to call the label report. That's it. I need to print on many cards info from several records, when grouped by some fields. Only way I can figure to do this is by building the label query so it has all this data, one record per label. How?

When you have built the label, you can modify the report design to add grouping. You will have to fiddle about a bit to get the fit right.

Remou - ?! Quick - tell me how to insert a grouping header into an existing label form.
