I'm trying to upgrade BCM400 from 3.7 to 4.0. During System Health Check I receive following error message: "Problem with the keycode file. Return value is 8 " Any suggestions?

It would appear that the system is not accepting the upgrade Keycode file. Did you generate it against the SID? and then enter it into the appropriate prompt during the upgrade?

Your thread title says 3.6-4.0 upgrade but u later say 3.7-4.0. Is your keycode for a 3.6 system or a 3.7? If ur trying to use a 3.6 upgrade keycode on a 3.7 system or vice versa it won't work.

my bad. it is a 3.6, build 3.1a to a 4.0. i got a file generated for the right level against the correct SID. I have never seen this issue before and have completed 50+ of these in the past.

Found this thak a look.

Solution Detail

Invalid keycode for a BCM 4.0 upgrade

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem Description
BCM 4.0 upgrade keycode file is not accepted by the BCM Upgrade Wizard. In most reported instances the identified cause of this issue is use of an incorrect upgrade Authorization code.

BCM 4.0 Upgrade Authorization codes are version specific. The chart below shows which upgrade type(s) are supported and expected results based on the authorization code used:

Authorization Code
BCM Current Version
Supported
Result

3.6 -> 4.0
3.6
Yes
Upgrade will proceed as designed

3.6 -> 4.0
3.7
No
Upgrade Wizard will fail with a keycode file issue

3.7 -> 4.0
3.7
Yes
Upgrade will proceed as designed

3.7 -> 4.0
3.6
No
Upgrade Wizard will fail with a keycode file issue

Problem Resolution
Please ensure that the current BCM software level is verified and double-checked before generating an upgrade keycode. Additionally confirm via KRS the authorization code that was used to generate the upgrade keycode. If an incorrect authorization code was used to generate the upgrade keycode the KRS support team will need to be contacted to resolve the situation in the KRS database.

i have run into the problem of keycodes being generated for the wrong level and have worked through that before, that actually gave me error of "wrong level".

I will have the file pulled from the KRS again to try the "corrupted file" suggestion.

just scratching my head at this one.
