Some FYI for all....

The newest features I have noticed through some lab testing:

1.) Can change analog MWI voltages (81v and 101v)only on V2 modules
2.) Extension field shows module and port location
3.) Changes made in the system field do not require reboot (haven't tested on all tabs yet)
4.) User tabs have changed with the addition of two with use of the T3 sets.
5.) I was able to upgrade all units at same time (don't know if they recommend it, but it worked with no probs so far)

Once I do some more testing today and tomorrow, I will try and get out some more info so everyone can get ready. Looks like AVAYA is starting to get some things back in shape with this version. But.....like I said, just got it in today. Once I test this monster the next couple of days, don't everyone get too excited. Knowing most of you, I'm sure you won't..LOL.

I've yet to find anything truly exciting about 3.1 save the fact that it seems to be stable. It appears that this release is geared primarily to the incorporation of Tenovis products (those annoying new T3 tabs).

The only cool thing I have noticed, as you stated, is the reference to port/module numbers in the extensions tree.

Were still gonna have to wait at least one more release for the trick stuff like twinning and dual connect in the US.

hey, youre from the us aren't you?

I'm more than happy ( and not only me i'm sure ) to get the T3 extension so we don't have to use those f*ng key appearances any more.
And personally i like the Tenovis extensions more than the 5xxx series.
Beside that the IP-DECT and twinning are very nice indeed and don't forget the LCR for IP trunks, including SCN.
Also to have SMDR without a need of a DeltaServer is a big winner for those of you needing billing software.

Thats much more then only seeing wich port is on a module.
For the EU this version is much more an improvement as the 3.0 release was.

Yea, there seems to be some VERY nice new enhancements in 3.1 outside of the US but here in the States it's more like a maintenance release than a version upgrade.

Kholladay is right. It's more of a maintenance release but,.. so far it has been very stable. I have 4 cicso 2600 routers set up and 3 ip phones on each with regular traffic running sniffer and everything..so far...is running fine. I am presently connecting CCC. Be it I am also in a controlled environment which says a whole lot. And personally after working on the IP Office after 4 years, I don't care what kind of phone sets the customer uses just as long as they work.

I agree with dizzyphil on the set types. My only draw to the 54xx/56xx series is that I no longer have to print desi strips (I'm just that lazy).

I do have one VERY MAJOR gripe with Avaya's recent position on the 4606/12/24 sets however.

"Avaya would like to reiterate earlier statements regarding the 4606, 4612 and 4624 IP Sets. IP
Office R3.1 will be the last IP Office release to support the above mentioned IP sets."

What is that! I hope that I understand this statement incorrectly and Avaya isn't saying that these set types will no longer function in future releases, beyond 3.1, but rather that they simply won't provide "support". I have sites with nothing but this series of sets and it would be a shame to be locked out of "selling" them the future version simply because they were insane enough to purchase and implement a "supported" set 2 years prior.

Ha! We had the same in the EU having thousends of 20xx DT sets out in the field.
And what did Avaya do? "We don't support the DT sets from 3.0 and higher, 2.1 will be the last build that supports these sets." And so it is.

So don't be afraid, if Avaya states they will not support these phones then they won't, period. Regardless of any protests.

In the near future there will be two kind of telephone sets available for IP Office and Definity:
5xxx and 6xxx ( wich is more or less the same ) and the Tenovis T3 wich will be made available on Definity as well.
2007 is the near future i'm told.

Intrigrant, that seems to me to be one of the biggest problems I believe with AVAYA/Lucent/AT&T since its incepetion. They limit themselves to phone types married to each of their platforms. In other words, only certain type phone models work with certain type system platforms in the 'Family'. My biggest rival is Nortel. 90% of their phones marry to each platform they sell. Big selling point when your upgrading. But I also believe out with the old in with the new. If your going to buy new, go all the way. When I do sell, that's what I try to do. AVAYA is limiting phone types to Definity, S-Series servers and IP Office because they are tired of spending R&D, Engineer and Tier support time trying to figure out why none of them work correctly with their equipment. LOL

I agree. Sad for the ol'phone owners but i will be the best in the end for all of us.

I would Kill (metaohoricaly) for the T3 Handsets because i think they look nicer (not as Fischer Price) as the 54xx series phones, unfortunatly they are not available in the UK, so the Home of the IPO is on the wrong end of a double whammy, No 2030 support but no access to T3 handsets either :-(

As anyone tested the T3 phones ?
Is it possible to use any of the T3 series ?

T3 Comfort
T3 Classic
T3 Compact

Luigi
