2nd Vista User can't invoke Interactive Paradox 10 1

Hi. I installed interactive Paradox 10 on my new machine which has Vista with SP1. I had to create a 2nd Vista user in order to have a 2nd email account (XP identity) for my small business. When I try to invoke Paradox as that 2nd Vista user, I get these 2 dialog boxes:

1) "Paradox Error
Network initialization failed.
Directory: C:\
File: C:\PDOXUSRS.NET
Cannot access network lock file.
Continue with network disabed?"

If I say "no", I'm kicked out.
If I say "yes", I get the following dialog:

2) "Error
Could not initialize BDE:
Network initialization failed.
Directory: C:\
File: C:\PDOXUSRS.NET"

That file is indeed in C:\ and Paradox interactive works fine when I "am" User 1.
Any ideas?

Rights for the different users?

Did you install as Administrator? Or (more likely) as User 1?

You MUST install as Administrator.

You MUST move the location of the netdir out of the root!

(Done thru bdeAdmin)

Thanks, Tony, for your speedy reply. Please pardon my ignorance on Vista, rights, etc. I have some questions, which I'll ask in the context of yours, if ok.

Did you install as Administrator? Or (more likely) as User 1?
I can't remember whether I made the additional user before or after I installed Paradox; so to be sure, I'll uninstall Paradox and start over. I'm the only one using this machine & I want to be annoyed as little as possible by Vista's constraints, which I'm sure are handy in other environments; so when I made the new user, I made BOTH users administrators. I'm assuming a user CAN be an administrator - right? (Being a user & being an administrator are not mutually exclusive?)

So I can install as myself (Fred)who has been designated an Administrator? Do I need to install to the Public "identity" or is "Fred" ok?

To any special directory or just any one so long as it's not the root?

As AN administrator MIGHT do it. Try it and see.

Netdir - just don't put it within the 'program files' tree.

The location needs to be where you have FULL rights, and Vista limits you in some places.

I use a subdirectory of my application, for netdir as well as one for the riv: directory.

myApp\dirs\netdir
myApp\dirs\priv

Thanks. Does your first sentence imply that there is a status of "The" administrator as well as "An" administrator? If so, how does one achieve this? (..he asked blindly).

No one really knows if Administrator and User with Administrative rights have the same exact rights. For installs, anyway, there may be differences.

From the login screen, I'm told that hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del twice will get you the login screen needed to log in as Administrator.

Since I don't log in as multiple people, I have my machines boot thru the login process directly to the desktop.

Tony, I want to thank you for telling whatever you have run across, which, as you can see, is a lot more than I have; and so which as such is very useful. Now I'm going to take all this info, put it together with all the Vista rights tutorials I'm racing through, & see what I can do with it. You brought up issues which I didn't even know existed and I'm grateful.
