I have been going crazy to fix this issue and would appreciate any help. I have a Proliant 3000 and have installed a 2nd processor. It works fine when each is is installed seperatly. When I boot with both it gives me me an error 212-processor 2 fail & 178-invalid configuration. I dont know what to do to fix this problem, please help. I have tried different processor cards, and processors. They all seem to work seperatly but not togather.

thnx in advance

William

Are both processors the same type/speed? -----------------------------------------------------

Yes they are the same type/speed/stepping.

Have you upgraded the Hal that the machine is using. Compaq has a utility for that.

Try going into SmartStart and seeing if it sees the 2nd processor in there. Maybe saving and rebooting will also help. -----------------------------------------------------

What about cache sizes are they the same ?

Have you updated the System ROM ?

Cheers

Hi,
Run Smart start! when the config utility ask's if you have fixed the bad processor say yes and continue that almost always fixes the 212 error.

Sorry about the delay getting back to. THis is a Lab Server and we had a break for 2 weeks. anyway here is what info i gathered:
Proliant 3000
System Rom Info- Rev. E39
4/19/2000
Porcessors are identical.

Under the system info off of the CD it asks of the failed processor has been replaced, if you answer no it shows the processor- but says failed- if you answr yes it reboots and fails. If there are any links for the rom updates or HAl updates i have been to the compaq site, however it is pretty had to navigate around if you could add them. I would really like to get this running on both processors, i appreciate the help and time.
