I reinstalled XP Pro on my C drive and did a complete reformat of that drive. I did this with the second drive (which I use for data, photo's, music, etc)disconnected as I did not want to accidentially reformat this drive as well and lose all my data. I then reattached my 2nd drive as the "slave" on my my primary IDE connection. (The C drive is set as the "Master" and the jumpers on both drives are appropiately set. I set both at "AUTO" configuration in the Setup bios. Everything works fine -- I can see the second drive as the computer boots as the slave and it also shows as an active drive in the Device Manager location on the Control Panel "System".

The probelem lies in the fact that either "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer" recognize the drive and no drive letter has been assigned. HELP!! Can anyone give me a solutiuon short of reinstalling XP and all my other programs with the 2nd drive connected?

If you had a program called GoBack installed prior to the format and reinstallation, it needs to be reinstalled in order for XP to recognize your other drive's partitions.

I did have "Go-Back" installed but I believe after reformatting the C drive it is gone. Am I correct? Also are you saying I must reinstall XP on the C drive with the 2nd drive connected in order for my computer to recognize the 2nd drive. The second drive is a completely seperate drive, not a partion of the C drive.

Thanks

True, GoBack is now gone from C: drive, but it altered the partition type on your other drive to something that your current XP, now without GoBack, can not recognize. Reinstall GoBack, and XP will then see your 2nd drive's partitions again.
