I am more of a router guy, but I am having a 2950 issue, need to enable additional routed VLANS on my 2950. Every time I create a new VLAN it is shutdown in the startup config. If I enable it, it shuts down the previously enabled VLAN. I know I must just be missing something simple but can't play with it since these are production switches and are managed remotely.

Anyone have any idea how I get all my VLAN Interfaces available at once?

Thanks,

Gus

Ok , you are getting confused . What you are doing is trying to create a layer 3 SVI for manageing the switch. A switch can only have one active SVI to manage the switch so when you bring one up the other will go down .This is a layer 2 device only and the address is for mgmt purposes only. What you need to be doing is creating a layer 2 vlan . Just do the following.

1. Conf t
2. Vlan XX, enter
3. Verify it's created by doing a show vlan .
4. copy run start

OK, I reread my doco and there can only be one management VLAN. I guess that makes sense. VLANS all seem to be working otherwise and getting routes from the core switch so I guess that means my trunking is OK too.

I hate when I feel dumber than I actually am. :)
