Question is, how do I assign an IP to a Gig ethernet interface. When I do this, am I in effect converting the 2950 to a layer three switch? I have removed the " switchport" function of the interface The switch will support 9 PCs and have a connection to a 2801 router that has a four port POE module that will support a few 7940s and PCs that piggy back off of the phones. By the way I am also running the following IOS version C2950-I6K2L2Q4-M. Thanks in advance, Steve.

This isn't possible on the 2950 - it is a Layer-2 ONLY switch. The minimum switch you need to do this is a 3550.
