2948g problems! Old IOS issues. please help

Hi everyone, I have a cisco 2948 running 4.4 IOS but I keep getting crashes with prtocol werrors which seem to be fixed on later versions. I am dirt poor and cannot even afford to call Cisco let alone fork over funds for their cco account. If anyone has a late version of hte catalyst IOS like waht was posted in the thread thread558-1033708 I would be much obliged.

Which 4948 is it? There were 2 versions 2948G-L3 and the 2948, the 2948G-L3 ran IOS and the the 2948 ran CatOS - 2 completely different operating systems. Tha latest IOS for the 2948G-L3 is 12.0.25-W5.27d and the latest CatOS for the 2948 is 8.4(11)GLX.

Which one do you have?

Hi, I did a show version and it is running WS-c2948 Software, Version NmpSW: 4.4(1) so I am assumig it is the CATOS.

Hardware Version 2.0 Serial: JAB0318002Q

It is probably worth posting the entire output from the Show Version command as there are some Rommon requirements for the newer software.

OK. To run the latest CatOS on this you also need to upgrade the Rommon image to at least 5.4(1), the latest is 6.1(4). Once this is installed you can then upgrade to the latest 8.4(11)GLX code.

The Rommon upgrade is just over 2MB and the CatOS image is 5MB (the release notes are about 500KB. If you have an FTP server or other online storage I can maybe upload them to you?

Hmmm, thats weird. It sasy the link is not available. Also I have done more searching and saw on google that there is a 6.1(5) promupgrade. Cn I install that on this switch if I can get it somehow or is it not possible?

Create a new gmail account and use the Firefox plugin "GSpace" to convert your gmail account into an "FTP" server its a lot more private than using some megaupload et all..

Just a thought.

Unfortunately no it did not. It is weird. I have two identical switches 2948's. One is running hte outside world with no problems whatsoever, the other is runninght einside world and it is having flapping issues. I am now mapping ports to mac/IP's to see if that solves the problem. I saw something about windows load balancing during google searches, but (while I will use it soon) I do not have it set up yet.
