Hi,
Ive got 2 2900XL switches. Both have the added 2x 1GB ports. The one switch works perfectly, but on the other one both the lights on the 1GB ports and the system status LEDs are yellow. The switch seems to work fine except that the 2 1GB ports aren't shown under show interfaces. I would like to use these 1GB ports as uplink ports in a routed VLAN environment so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The first thing I would check is the code version to see if it supports the gig interfaces . Second look in the log for any indication of problems , it should give a reason during a POST if there is a problem.

Used the show post command and it says passed. There is nothing in the logs about those ports. The ios version is the same as the working switch so I gues the IOS version supports it. The funny thing is that when I plug a pc into the port it tries to initialize the port even though it is not listed in the sh int

On the working switch the 1GB ports do show under the show interfaces command

I actually meant try the other GBICS. I just left out the GBIC part of it. Have you tried swapping them around to confirm they are good?
