Copied (tftp)to the flash card a new ios to our router and booted it up.

With the new IOS the flash shows no files and 0 bytes available. Reload the original IOS and they show fine.

Any ideas?

2811 router
original ios = C2800nm-ipvoice-mz.123-11.T3.bin
new ios = C2800nm-ipvoicek9-mz.124-11.T1.bin

Thanks

How big is the flash supposed to be? How big are the IOS files? Have you tried reseating the flash module? Have you tried reloading the old IOS to see if it does the same thing? Did you do a "sh fla" before loading the new IOS?

Burt

there is enough room on the card. Tried reseating.

Show flash worked before loading new IOS
Show flash did not work with new IOS
Reloading original IOS and show flash works

It's something to do with the new IOS. Crypro version versus w/o crypto??

After reloading previous IOS, proving sh flash works, and then I assume you reloaded the new IOS a second time...Is there like a 32MB flash, and the IOS is only like 12MB or something? Is it even close to taking up all the room? Does it show NO files on the flash? I would say it's a bug, and contact Cisco, assuming that you have a contract, which I assume is how you acquired the IOS---Cisco would take care of that...or, perhaps I should not assume so much---Benny Hill told me what happens when I assume too much...lol.

Burt

yeah, plenty of room on the flash. It will show no files on the flash and zero bytes available. Going to get Cisco involved today. Definitely an odd situation.

I sure miss Benny Hill!

when you boot does it load the ios you put onto the flash? or are you going to boot/rommon mode?

what does sho ver say for the flash size?
what model router is it?

Looks like he has a 2800 series, and he's upgrading for 3DES VPN support, which is the "k9" part of the IOS. But good question...does it actually come all the way up?

Burt

ya thats an odd one.. if it does load on the previous ios.. i would run a /verify on it so make sure the md5 hash is the same as what cisco says it should be.

Actually, we were just shooting for bgp on a handful of 2800 series routers. I think we just grabbed the wrong ios for this unit.

It does come all the way up and shows the ios is loaded, just can't show the flash.

The k9 (crypto) ios worked on our other branches routers (2800 series) so we "assumed" it'd be fine on this 2811. Bad assumption :)

We tried this one:C2800nm-ipvoicek9-mz.124-11.T1.bin
when I think we should have used:C2800nm-ipvoice-mz.124-11.T1.bin
