loged into rsc, console command hangs, just sits there. The ok prompt never comes up, boot doesnt work, typing does not show up.

After breaking out (~.) I can poweroff, poweron, reset, xir, etc.. and reconnect, but nothing.. I have switched the key to diag mode, and the output follows.. The last line is where it stops, and just sits.. for hours.

I am looking for any ideas..

Thanks,

rsc> console

With some console switches, when the server has been rebooted the console session hangs and you have to close the session on the switch and start a new one. Some switches will let you enter a command but not recognise the <enter> key.

Follup up -

The problem turned out to be OBP configuration errors, after I managed to get to the ok prompt, I was able to correct the problems, set it to boot to cdrom, and pop in the install cd..

How I got TO the ok prompt was a trick, and I was able to reproduce it.. in the RSC,

rsc> bootmode -u normal
rsc> reset
rsc> console

system boots to OS (I knew the password)
shutdown -g0 -i0 -y
ok

changed broken boot paths, nic, etc.. it was like a 5yr old had been in there just typing away.. set the boot device to cdrom..

boot cdrom - zoom zoom! =-)

Problem solved.
