Hello,

I had a user come tell me that their phone wasn't working. Since the phone is a 2008, I decided to replace it with a 2616. Recreate new programming so that the phone is a 2616 in the PBX and all is well. On the new phone, it works a few times, I make test calls etc, but then the customer calls and says it's not working again. I press the line button and get a dial tone, pick up the handset and get nothing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I tried different 2008's and different 2616 sets, and I checked the volume etc on the set.

I punched down and then even moved the TN at the PBX.

Any suggestions?

have you changed the handsets?? you said you changed the phones, but sometimes people don't change the handsets? print and post the phone config for us!

You use a different Handset each time you switched out the set??

Yes, I used different handsets each time.

Did you try to move it to a different card? At least some other TN than any in the 20-0-13 range? I know you moved TNs when you changed from the 2008 to 2616, but maybe you stayed on the same card ... maybe that card has intermittent issues with dial tone generation?

Actually going back and reading your first description did the 2008 have this same issue? It sounds like it could be a hookswitch issue where the 2616 is not recognizing that you are lifting the handset off the set. It could also be the coil cord going from the handset to the base (if you didn't replace that) OR if the person happens to have a cord detangler ... those go bad ALL the TIME!

ahh, I'll have to check that. Is it LD 22 for ahist? That should give me a report of the changes, outs etc right?

It seems that the 2008 was doing the same thing, but it's speaker phone wasn't working anyway. I replaced all of the cords associated with the phones that I could think of. The coil cord from the base to the handset, the silver cord from the base to the wall.... I'm really stumped.

I'll run that report and see if it couldn't be a card problem. I'll post back when I know more.

ahst, and not that detailed, tty to overlays, not actions within.

Mato' Was'aka

Oh, is there a report then that will show me outed phones? I couldn't tell you what card the phone was originally on.

no there isnt! Just move the port to any other digital port and test, stay away from that card, or swap that card with another

Plug it in to a known working position and ensure all functions work. This way you will prove if it it programming/TN issues or the phone itself.

flash hock not working for set telephone re mainttinance the telephone ( Hardware Problem no s/w )

I think the answer lies in the programming.
When you have more than one line button on the phone you need OLA and IRA.
OLA - outgoing line allowed and IRA incoming line alloved.

When you have OLD Denied you have to both lift the handset and press the line key in order to get dialtone.
Same with IRD Denied - you will have to lift the handset and press the line key in order to answer.

Regardless of IRA/IRD, OLA/OLD, etc - if you lift the handset of an idle phone, the KEY 0 DN key will always activate without pressing it.

OK - right - I remember now - it is on ACD phones we use IRA/OLA

This may sound really low-tech, but usually when I have a user report this kind of issue it's almost always a female and almost always makeup built up on their handset that eventually transfers to the hookswitch... May not be your problem, but I see it quite a bit.

Not low tech at all :) That and food are the most common "cant be heard" causes for headsets too.

ok so here's an update. I changed out the hand set and phone again, and it worked! Then it stopped working again with the same problem (speaker phone ok, handset not). I had an old handset in my bag that I thought was a good working one, plugged that in, and it works fine!

BUT

The users phone and laptop plug into the same wall jack, and she had pulled her laptop all the way to the other side of her desk and it caused the jack box to pull. I rearranged her desk a little when I was working and straightened out the box - no problem since then!

So, either way, it's working but I'm not entirely sure what caused it lol!
