I have a request to change the ring tone on the emergency hotline at our security guard shack. I know how to change the tone in the CLS DRG1 to 4 but can this be accomplished for each specific line (extension) on that set.

Please provide me the load and commands to implement. Also, If there are additional forums on this let me know what I should type in the search box to narrow my searches.

Thanks very much for any help,
Blanton

Feature description
Distinctive Ringing by DN (DRDN) allows a distinctive ringing cadence to be configured for
each DN key. The ability to have sets with a distinctive ring is useful for distinguishing calls
with different DNs and is only available on Meridian Modular sets.

Is it possible for you to explain the load for implementing that change? What do you mean by Meridian Modular sets? I have a M2616 type set that I am trying to setup the distinctive ring for the second DN attached to that phone.

Thanks

This is on a Nortel option 51C.

You can't change the ringtone on a 2616 per line. It's per phone... an all or nothing proposition for each phone.

There's ways around it - but you're getting into custom hardware hacks that'll invalidate warranties (have one customer who's previous vendor did it... but we told them when it dies, it dies...). You can also use external ringers off an analog line with the same extension as the hotline you want that'll just ring in tandem with the key appearance on the 2616. Add another 2616 and assign it a different ringtone, etc.

That would be incorrect nessman. 2616's are supported for DRDN, it's right in the 7.5 books. Your old Option 51 very well could not have this feature depending on what Release the PBX is on.

Hmmm... then again you could be right. Not something I've had reason to tinker with much. I know for this one customer, they have lots of PVR's which don't support disctinctive ringing - ergo their hardware hack job.

Option 51c has been end-of-life for a decade. I think 3.0 is as high as you can go in those old beasts.
