Here's one I've never seen before. I'm an IT guy and seem to have taken on being backup support for our Option 11 and Norstar systems (at our branch offices). You know, one of those "you answered a question once, so now you're qualified" kind of deals.

Anyway, a user asked me about a phone this morning. It's a 2616 that when the reciever is picked up, the display briefly shows "M2616" then changes to "Model? (20)". A work order is in on the phone, and our contractor will be here to fix it, but I'm curious... what does this mean? and what caused it? There's a dial tone, but no DN indicator, and no tones when you dial.

Thanks,
Matt

The M2616 is on a hardeware port where nothing is configuered. With a special prodedure it is possible programm the Phones from each phone. Model? mean what typ of model you have.

I would bet Chaos is on the right path. Although I've never seen this before. Print the phone (TN) and compare the "Type" on the printout with the kind of phone you are plugging in.
