Hey all,

Hopefully someone can answer this one for me!

I have a 2612 router with (2) Ethernet 10mb ports on it, trying to set it up with the VLAN's on my 2924 switch. I have read on these forums that I need ISL, 802.1Q, or 802.10 Trunking ability. I have not been able to find the encapsulation feature on the router and I am currently running IOS 12.3(9).

Do I have to enable something to get that feature working on this version of the IOS? I have been unable to find anything on Cisco's website listing if this IOS is able to even do this.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

FYI, here is the error I get when I try to assign an IP to the sub interface

% Configuring IP routing on a LAN subinterface is only allowed if that
subinterface is already configured as part of an IEEE 802.10, IEEE 802.1Q,
or ISL vLAN.

I heard trunk needs a router with fast eathernet intf.

I read another thread here that said you do not need FE for Trunking.

Make sure you have IP Plus software, but i'm pretty sure that you need the fast ethernet interface to do it..

IP Plus software? Not sure what that is...

IP plus is feature set for ios. I know you need FE for vlans.

It is possible to do Vlan trunking on a 10meg port!.
I know its possible , but dont know how.

It is just NOT supported by cisco, so they wont try
and help.

I know this is as helphull as tits on a bull, but
at least I can confirm that it CAN be done.

I think they released a newer IOS that supported trunking on a 10mb port, but I could be wrong. :)

Anyways, interVLAN routing on a 2612 would be an extremely bad idea. Go buy a Cisco 3550 or higher switch and be happy. :)
