That is as far as it gets. I can not break sequence to get into rommon mode. Router doesn't see to respond to keyboard entries.

The router is unable to boot beyond that stage because there is not enough memory, you need atleast 8Mb ram.

System Bootstrap, Version 11.0(10c)XB1, PLATFORM SPECIFIC RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)Copyright (c) 1986-1997 by cisco Systems2500 processor with 6144 Kbytes of main memory

That is odd because it was able to boot before. I did get a copy of the running config. I will take a peek and see if anything came loose or swap it from another router.

Nothing came loose and didn't have any other ram to swap with it, so I bought some new memory. Hopefully this straightens it out.

Vic---he has 8MB DRAM!

In the case that a router does not have enough memory, you will see

Not enough memory in the system for IO memory
IO memory available 4110105 required 5242880 _> 2600

and/or

SYSTEM INIT: INSUFFICIENT MEMORY TO BOOT THE IMAGE!

and/or

Not enough memory in the system to run this image
Required pmem/iomem: 39435385/524288
*** System received a Software forced crash ***

along those lines. This is NOT an issue with too little memory!

cisco 2521 (68030) processor (revision K) with 6144K/2048K bytes of memory.---This equals 8MB DRAM, not 6MB!!!

Oops! Burt you are correct, I miss read the output.
The 8mb memory should be enough to run the ios image contained in 8mb flash. Atleast it should load successfully.

Nope---had to Google. I know for a fact that you get specific messages, but did not remember verbatim.

My guess is that his keyboard or some settings are goofed up. At least I would have eliminated that as a possibility before buying new mammory...

Well an upgrade never hurts and it was cheap. I can get into two routers and switches, two other routers and switches I am having similar problem with the 2521. I have tried hyperterm, teraterm, solarwinds all with different bit rates and flow controls. I am thinking it may have been a power issue as I was sometimes feeling slight shocks when touching the outside covers.

That's because you're completing the circuit to ground...lol

Go to a different place (house, building), then try.
